2012 Big 12 Preseason Coaches Poll

Texas A&M has been unanimously selected as the preseason favorite to win the 2012 Big 12 baseball regular season title. In a vote by the league’s head coaches, the Aggies earned eight first place votes, totaling 64 points. In 2011, TAMU made its fifth College World Series appearance, claimed its second-straight Big 12 postseason crown and earned a share of the regular season title. Texas LHP Sam Stafford Out for the Season

Per reports from Hookem.com’s Alan Trubow, Texas RHP Sam Stafford could miss the 2012 season due to a shoulder injury. Stafford, a second round pick in the 2011 draft by the New York Yankees, returned to Austin after the Yankees had questions about the same shoulder that is reportedly injured. After experiencing tightness in his shoulder recently, Stafford underwent an MRI and was greeted with less-than great news. Read the rest of this entry »

Texas OF Cohl Walla Out for the Season

Texas junior outfielder Cohl Walla suffered a torn ACL today at practice according to CBD sources close to the situation.  Walla appeared in 50 games last season while starting 37 games and hitting .229 in 144 at bats. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 CBD Season Preview: Big 12 (Part 1)

In 2012, the Big 12 will be without a former power, while saying farewell to a pair of teams and preparing to welcome another. With Nebraska officially gone to the Big Ten, the conference will take on a new shape with only nine members. Conference favorite, Texas A&M, is preparing to compete in their final Big 12 season before jumping ship to the powerful SEC with Missouri in tow. NCBWA Names 2012 Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List

Texas and UCLA host Alumni Games

LOS ANGELES – The UCLA baseball team earned a 13-0 victory in an exhibition contest against the UCLA Alumni Team on Saturday afternoon under sunny skies at Steele Field at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

Right-hander Nick Vander Tuig secured the victory, allowing one hit in four scoreless innings as UCLA’s starting pitcher. Vander Tuig faced the minimum 12 batters through four frames. Read the rest of this entry »

Texas Longhorns adding new video board at UFCU Disch-Falk Field

The Texas Longhorns will add a new toy to their already world-class stadium in 2012. Currently being constructed in right field is a new video board that will add some new flair for Augie Garrido’s club.

The video board is going up opposite of the existing scoreboard, just right of the 405 marker in the power alley.  The structure will measure out at 25.2 feet high, and 60 feet wide, and will display both teams’ lineups with a video display in the middle.

No official word yet on the fate of the existing scoreboard, but seeing that the new board makes no mention of score keeping, it would be safe to assume Texas will keep the existing structure in its current role, while shifting the graphics and video playback to the new board.
