SAN DIEGO — The West All-Americans scored six runs in the sixth and seventh innings Sunday night for a come-from-behind 7-6 victory over the East in the Perfect Game All-American Classic at Petco Park.
After falling behind early, the West battled back with four runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a two-run single by USC commit Dominic Smith.
Fellow USC commit Rowdy Tellez struck with two outs in the following inning with a two-strike liner to left field that went under the fielder’s glove for a two-run triple. San Diego commit Stephen Gonsalves and Kacy Clemens, a Texas commit, scored on the play and combined to collect the win and save.

SAN DIEGO — Ryan Boldt didn’t have much to say Sunday night when San Diego Padre great Trevor Hoffman presented him with the 2012 Perfect Game All-American Classic MVP Award. It didn’t matter; his play had already said plenty.
The lanky 6-foot-1 centerfielder from Red Wing, Minnesota finished 2-for-3 with a triple to help the West squad secure a come-from-behind 7-6 victory at Petco Park Sunday night.
Boldt showed off his wheels roaming the spacious Petco outfield and when he slid into third base (pictured above) with an easy triple on a smash down the left field line.
“I try to use my speed as much as I can,” the Nebraska commit said. “I just try to put the ball in play and run as much as I can.” Continue reading

Here are some of my quick thoughts from games played on February 18th.
One of the things heading into the weekend that I wanted to see was how dominate Marcus Stroman would be with the Duke Blue Devils as a starting pitcher. He was far from dominant in his first start of the year on Saturday, lasting only five innings giving up three runs on four hits and six walks against the Texas Longhorns. I still believe he will be a great reliever but doesn’t have the type of stuff to be a starting pitcher but that is just my opinion. The Blue Devils ended up losing that game 4-0 in seven innings before dropping the nightcap 5-3. Continue reading
