Finish: Regionals (4th place, Bloomington)

2013 was a season of frustration and disappointment for a team coming off back to back to back College World Series appearances. Injuries decimated the Gators, and many even questioned whether they belonged in a regional after finishing one game over .500 heading into postseason play. USA Baseball announces 2014 Collegiate Team Coaching Staff

The manager, Dave Van Horn of the University of Arkansas, was announced in April of 2013. Texas A&M releases 2014 Schedule

TexasAMFeaturedCOLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M Baseball announced its schedule for the 2014 season, a 56-game slate that features 36 home games in the friendly confines of Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park.

The Aggies will play 10 teams that participated in the 2013 NCAA Championship for a total of 25 games, including Alabama (3), Arkansas (3), Columbia, Florida (3), LSU (3), Mississippi State (3), Ole Miss (3), Rice, Sam Houston State (2) and Vanderbilt (3). Wetzler’s complete game, Hayes’ bat send Oregon State to Corvallis Regional title

OregonStateFistPumpCORVALLIS, Ore. – Ben Wetzler gave up a run in the first inning, then shut Texas A&M out the remainder of the game as Oregon State wore the Aggies out to take a 6-1 victory and the Corvallis Regional title on Sunday night.

A Friday night starter in 2012, Wetzler has been the Beavers’ Sunday starter since returning from a sore back part way through the nonconference season. He delivered an all-Pac-12 worthy season, earning first team accolades along with OSU’s other weekend starters. Against A&M, he might have been better than ever. Continue reading

Texas A&M slips past UC Santa Barbara, faces Oregon State next

TexasAMFeaturedCORVALLIS, Ore. – A big early lead was just enough to keep the Texas A&M Aggies hopes alive for at least a few more hours.

The Aggies led UC Santa Barbara 4-0 after three innings – getting a two-run double from first baseman Cole Lankford in the third – and escaped the Gauchos seventh-inning rally by turning to closer Jason Jester. TexasAMUTSAFeaturedCORVALLIS, Ore. – Cole Lankford helped get Texas A&M off to a dynamite start, doubling in a run in the first inning, and Parker Ray was dominant on the mound for 8 2/3 innings as the Aggies defeated UT San Antonio 6-1 in an elimination game at the Corvallis Regional.

Lankford finished the game 5-for-5, scored a run and drove in two to lead a 12-hit assault that the Roadrunners were unable to match. Continue reading

Gauchos hold off Texas A&M in Corvallis Regional opener

UCSBRegionalFeaturedImageCORVALLIS, Ore. – Austin Pettibone lifted UC Santa Barbara on his shoulders, delivering three pitches for strikes and keeping Texas A&M off-balance for 7 2/3 innings in the Corvallis Regional. The Gauchos responded to his efforts, providing enough offense for a 6-4 victory in their postseason appearance since 2001.

For A&M, workhorse ace Daniel Mengden wasn’t his usual efficient self, lasting just one out into the fourth. He gave up six hits, five runs – four earned – and three walks in front of 1,783 baseball fans at Goss Stadium. Continue reading

SEC Tournament Game Fourteen: Vanderbilt vs. Texas A&M

In a rematch of a game that saw top-seeded Vanderbilt fall to nine-seeded Texas A&M earlier in the tournament, the Commodores defeated the Aggies 3-0 on Friday evening to eliminate Texas A&M from the tournament.

The Commodores’ performance in Friday night’s game made it evident as to why Vanderbilt is the unanimously top-ranked team in the country. Offensively, the Commodores were able to put up fourteen hits, defensively they did not have a single error, and on the mound Vanderbilt’s Tyler Beede pitched a two-hit gem to lead the team to victory. SEC Tournament Game Twelve: Mississippi State vs. Texas A&M

The reigning SEC Tournament Champion Mississippi State Bulldogs are making another run at it. The Bulldogs secured themselves a spot in one of Saturday’s games with a 6-4 win over Texas A&M. Mississippi State is 3-0 so far in the 2013 SEC Tournament having already beaten Missouri, South Carolina and now Texas A&M.
