NAIA conference tournament recap for May 7

Golden State Athletic Conference – at San Diego: #3 Point Loma Nazarene won the inaugural tournament, defeating #24 The Master’s 6-1. The Sea Lions were out-hit 7-6 by the Mustangs, but they broke a tight game open with a grand slam home run in the seventh inning by 3B Wes Kartch. Brandon Dixon got the win.

Appalachian Athletic Conference - at Kingsport, TN: #10 Tennessee Wesleyan won the championship, defeating #14 Union (KY) 5-3. This was the completion of a game suspended the previous day. The winning run came on a sacrifice fly by Matt Stanley in the sixth inning. Jon Swartout, who pitched a shutout on Monday, took over after the suspension, and went the last 4 2/3 innings, didn’t allow a run. Continue reading NAIA conference tournament recap for May 7

Golden State Athletic Conference – at San Diego: #3 Point Loma Nazarene defeated #11 Fresno Pacific 3-2 (12 innings). SS Tyler Kuehl singled in the winning run for the Sea Lions. Steven Winnick pitched four hitless innings in relief for the win. #24 The Master’s then took Fresno Pacific out of the tournament with a 6-5 win. Point Loma Nazarene and The Master’s play for the championship in Thursday.

Sun Conference – at Fort Myers, FL: #7 Embry-Riddle defeated Savannah College of Art and Design 11-4 for the championship. Joel Blomberg and Austin Goolsby hit home runs for the Eagles. Continue reading NAIA conference tournament recap for May 6

Sooner Athletic Conference: The entire tournament was cancelled due to bad weather. Both #1 Lubbock Christian and #2 Oklahoma City are hosting sectional tournaments next week.

Golden State Athletic Conference – at San Diego: #3 PointLoma Nazarene defeated #24 The Master’s 4-0. Andrew Bovich pitched eight shutout innings for the Sea Lions, and Kurt Steinhauer hit two home runs. #11 Fresno Pacific defeated Biola 15-12. Sooner Athletic Conference – at Shawnee, OK: The start of the tournament was delayed until Tuesday due to wet grounds.

Golden State Athletic Conference – at San Diego: #24 The Master’s defeated Azusa Pacific 6-5 (11 innings). #11 Fresno Pacific plays Biola and #3 Point Loma Nazarene plays Azusa Pacific on Tuesday.

Sun Conference – at Fort Myers, FL: In the second round, #7 Embry-Riddle defeated USC Beaufort 11-6; Brandon Roper-Hubbert went 4-5 with four RBI. Savannah College of Art and Design defeated Warner 5-0. Stephen Shackleford pitched a complete-game shutout for the Bees; he scattered eight hits, and struck out nine. He is 7-1, 2.73 ERA. Southern States Athletic Conference - at Columbus, GA: #6 Southern Polytechnic took #8 Lee out of the tournament with a 6-3 win. Southern Polytechnic then lost to #4 Berry 9-3; Jason Dorcey pitched a complete game for the Vikings. The Hornets and Vikings will play one more game on Sunday for the championship.

NAIA recap for January 29

Two of the NAIA’s pre-season favorites start their seasons this weekend.

#4 Biola hosts Simpson today.They will then make a trip to Hawaii, playing Hawaii Pacific Feb. 2-3, and Hawaii-Hilo Feb. 4.

#5  Embry-Riddle opens their season in Lakeland, FL, at Southeastern, on Feb. 3.

#10 LSU-Shreveport, already 3-0 on the season, have their home opener against LSU-Alexandria Jan. 30-31, and host Southern Arkansas on Feb. 4. Continue reading NAIA recap for January 29
