2013 Ohio Valley Preseason Coaches Poll

OhioValleyConferenceBRENTWOOD, Tenn. — After winning the Ohio Valley Conference regular season and tournament championships each of the past two years, Austin Peay has been tabbed the 2013 preseason favorite for the 11-team league in a vote of OVC head baseball coaches and sports information directors. In additional voting APSU junior second baseman Jordan Hankins and Tennessee Tech junior first baseman Zach Stephens were named OVC Preseason Co-Players of the Year while Belmont senior lefty Chase Brookshire was tabbed OVC Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Kansas 3 Bowling Green 1 (Game 1)

  • Kansas took the lead in the seventh on a two-run single from LF Tucker Tharp.
  • SS Kevin Kuntz led the Jayhawks with two hits. Kansas had six hits total.
  • Freshman LHP Wes Benjamin picked up the win in his first career start, going seven innings and allowing only one run on five hits. Benjamin walked one and struck out three.

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — After winning the Ohio Valley Conference regular season and tournament championships a year ago, Austin Peay has been tabbed the 2012 preseason favorite for the 10-team league in a vote of OVC head baseball coaches. In additional voting Southeast Missouri State All-American senior third baseman Trenton Moses was named OVC Preseason Player of the Year while Jacksonville State senior closer Todd Hornsby was tabbed OVC Preseason Pitcher of the Year. ACC Recap for Feb. 20th

The ACC wrapped up the weekend with all the teams in action. The conference went 9-4 with North Carolina sweeping a doubleheader with USC and Missouri.

ACC Weekend Preview (Feb. 18th-20th)

We start up the 2011 season today with all 12 ACC teams in action with most of the top teams facing weaker competition. The best two non-conference matchups this weekend is the Virginia Cavaliers taking part in the Auburn Tigers tourney while North Carolina heads to Southern California to take part in the USC Tournament while slipping in a game with Cal-State Fullerton on Saturday. Ohio Valley Conference to play Fridays-Sundays in 2012

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – The Ohio Valley Conference has announced a change to the format of its Conference regular season series for baseball starting with the 2012 season.

Currently the OVC plays a three-game series spread over two days, with the teams playing a doubleheader on Saturday (with one of those games being a 7-inning game, the other a 9-inning affair) and a single 9-inning game on Sunday. Read the rest of this entry »

In additional voting Tennessee Tech senior All-American outfielder Chad Oberacker was named OVC Preseason Player of the Year while Eastern Illinois junior hurler Mike Hoekstra was tabbed OVC Preseason Pitcher of the Year. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Fourth-ranked Florida State (20-4) defeated No. 8 Florida (18-6) 7-2 Tuesday evening in front of a sell out crowd of 9,276 at the Baseball Grounds in Jacksonville. The Seminoles collected their sixth win in a row and their third straight over the Gators in Jacksonville. FSU moved to 2-1 against Florida this year with the final game of the regular season series coming on Tuesday, April 13 in Tallahassee.

Geoff Parker and Brian Busch led FSU on Tuesday night as the two Seminole pitchers combined to hold the Gators to just two runs on six hits.

COLUMBIA, SC – Scott Wingo and Whit Merrifield each homered and Gamecock starter Nolan Belcher combined with four relievers for a two-hit shutout as 15th ranked South Carolina defeated Presbyterian 15-0 on Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference tilt at Carolina Stadium. The Gamecocks are now 5-2 on the year while the loss drops Presbyterian to 1-7 for the season. South Carolina returns to action with a three-game series vs. nationally ranked Clemson. The series begins on Friday at Clemson with first pitch at 6:30 p.m. Saturday’s tilt will be at Fluor Field in Greenville, S.C. and is scheduled for 2 p.m. with the finale at Carolina Stadium on Sunday at 2 p.m. as well.

Belcher was dominant on the hill for the Gamecocks with five scoreless innings and just one infield hit allowed. He struck out seven and walked one to earn his first win of the year. Matt Price also struck out one in one inning of relief with Parker Bangs striking out two batters in his stint. Freshmen Ethan Carter and Colby Holmes closed the game out with an inning apiece as well. South Carolina pitchers had 10 strikeouts to two walks on the afternoon. Presbyterian reliever Jesse Harmon went 1.2 innings and allowed seven runs on five hits to suffer the loss. He is 0-1 on the year.
