2014 Summit League Preseason Coaches Poll

SummitLeagueELMHURST, Ill. – Omaha is favored to repeat as The Summit League baseball regular season champion in a preseason vote among the league’s head coaches.

The Mavericks received three first-place votes and a total of 15 points. South Dakota State came in second with 12 points and one first-place vote while North Dakota State had 10 points for third place. Western Illinois received the final first-place vote and totaled eight points followed by Fort Wayne with five points. Continue reading

North Dakota State releases 2014 Schedule

NDSUBaseballFARGO, N.D. – North Dakota State head baseball coach Tod Brown has set a 52-game schedule for the 2014 season including a spring break trip to Florida for the sixth straight year and a 24-game Summit League slate.

North Dakota State opens the season Feb. 21-23 with a three-game series at Southern California before going to Murray State and Northern Colorado for a pair of four-game series. NDSU will play six games against Evansville, LIU Brooklyn, Maine, Army and Harvard in Florida before opening league play. Continue reading

Oral Roberts heads back to The Summit League in 2014-2015 School Year

With the announcement, ORU returns to a league where it spent 15 seasons, leaving the Southland Conference after two seasons of competition. All 16 sports sponsored by ORU will compete in The Summit League. Continue reading

San Francisco Outlasts South Dakota in the Eugene Regional Elimination Game

SanFranFeaturedSan Francisco has played 24 innings in two days, and are now guaranteed at least another nine, after the Dons defeated South Dakota 4-3 in 13 innings in the Eugene Regional at PK Park.

“We are trying to set a record for most innings played in a regional appearance,” said San Francisco head coach Nino Giarratano. “Hopefully we can stay here and play all 18 innings in two games, not just one tomorrow.” Continue reading

Ducks Healy Delivers; Oregon wins 3-2

RyonHealyOregonFeatured2In the Eugene Regional’s nightcap, the #1 seed Oregon Ducks squared off against the #4 seed South Dakota State Jackrabbits at PK Park in Eugene, Ore.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, with runners at first and second, Oregon first baseman Ryon Healy roped a double to the left field gap giving Oregon a 3-2 lead and eventually a opening night victory. Continue reading

The Oregon Ducks and PK Park were once again selected as a regional host site for the second straight year. The announcement that a regional would take place in Eugene again, made Oregon one of eight programs (Florida State, LSU, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Virginia, and UCLA) to be awarded back-to-back hosting opportunities. It’s quite a feat if you consider that Oregon reinstated baseball in 2009. Continue reading

2013 Summit League Preseason Coaches Poll

NDSUBaseballELMHURST, Ill. – North Dakota State was favored to capture its first Summit League Baseball Tournament title in a preseason vote among the league’s six head coaches. The Bison received five first-place votes and a total of 25 points.

South Dakota State placed second with 17 points, followed closely by Oakland who received the final first-place vote and 16 points. The Golden Grizzlies received the final first-place vote. Western Illinois (15 points), Fort Wayne (nine points) and league newcomer Omaha (eight points) rounded out the poll. Continue reading
