2014 CBD Top 100 Countdown: 57. Patrick Mazeika (Stetson)

PatrickMazeickWe continue the countdown today with number 57, Stetson catcher/first baseman Patrick Mazeika. In an impressive freshman campaign with the Hatters, Mazeika finished the season leading the team in seven offensive categories. The 6’3” lefty was almost impossible to get out at the plate as his team leading stats spoke for themselves. Mazeika led the Hatters in batting average (.382), hits (81), Homeruns (3), RBI (33), slugging percentage (.495) and on-base percentage (.488). The talented freshman tore up Atlantic Sun pitching, leading the league with a .439 average through conference play. Due to his notable play on the diamond, Mazeika earned multiple freshmen All-America and Atlantic Sun Honors including; Collegiate Baseball Louisville Slugger, A-Sun Conference freshman of the Year, A-Sun All-Conference 1st team and NCBWA Freshman All-America 1st team. Stetson releases 2014 Schedule

DeLAND–Home contests with Florida State, Miami, Ole Miss, NC State, and Boston College highlight Stetson’s 2014 baseball schedule, which head coach Pete Dunn announced on Wednesday.

The Hatters also visit South Carolina for a pair of mid-week games in early March and face a total of seven 2013 post-season squads. Stetson also is slated to play 13 games against either SEC or ACC foes, making this one of Dunn’s most challenging slates in his 35 years at the helm. Continue reading

2013 Atlantic Sun Preseason Coaches Poll

The two teams previously tied in the 2011 poll. The Eagles and Bears both compiled 81 points in the poll with Mercer earning three first-place votes and FGCU receiving two first-place nods. Stetson releases 2013 Schedule

The Stetson baseball team will be loaded with new faces for the 2013 season, but the schedule the Hatters will face in coach Pete Dunn’s 34th season will be as challenging as ever.

The 22 opponents on the Hatters’ schedule for the spring come from 11 conferences and, as a group, averaged 30 victories during the 2012 season. But, most importantly for a young Stetson team, 38 of the 56 games on the schedule will be played in DeLand at Melching Field. Continue reading

Brian Pruitt named Assistant Coach at Stetson

Breaking down the CCBL All-Stars using Sabermetrics

Beyond the Box Score, a SB Nation blog, has broken down the CCBL All-Stars using Sabermetrics. Glenn DuPaul was able to calculate weighted on base average and OPS+ but was not able to calculate in park adjustments. He was also able to figure out Fielding Independent Pitching (FIP) and KWERA for the pitchers.  Continue reading
