2013 Preseason Big East Coaches Poll Released

BigEastLogoPROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Louisville Cardinals, who tied for the 2012 BIG EAST regular-season title, have been tabbed as the favorites in 2013 by the league’s 11 head coaches.

The Cardinals, who advanced to the NCAA Championship for the seventh time in 2012, reaching the final of the Tucson Regional, received eight first-place votes and 98 points in the coaches’ preseason poll. St. John’s releases 2013 Schedule

QUEENS, N.Y. – Head baseball coach Ed Blankmeyer has officially announced the schedule for the upcoming 2013 season, his 18th at the helm of the defending BIG EAST Tournament and regular season champions. The 56-game slate features 23 home games, a contest at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets, and a total of 14 games against six teams that participated in the 2012 NCAA Tournament. St. John’s set to name Corey Muscara as Assistant Coach

St. John’s will name Corey Muscara as pitching coach according to CBD sources close to the situation. Muscara served as an assistant coach last season at Southern New Hampshire where he helped lead the Penmen to a 43-15 overall record and 12-9 in the Northeast-10 conference. He spent the 2010-2011 season at Binghamton under Tim Sinicki after spending the previous two seasons with Southern New Hampshire. More information will be available soon.

Top 100 Countdown: 14. Kyle Hansen (St. John’s)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 14 with St. John’s junior RHP Kyle Hanson. He is listed as a 6’7 195 pound junior righthanded pitcher out of Glen Cove New York and attended St. Dominic for high school. He was a two year letterwinner for the Bayhawks where he was named All-State and All-League in both seasons. The Milwaukee Brewers selected him in the 40th round (1,216 overall) in the 2009 MLB Draft but were not able to come to terms with him. Read the rest of this entry »

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – On the heels of back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Championship and a runner-up finish in the BIG EAST last season, St. John’s has been tabbed as the favorite to win the 2012 BIG EAST baseball championship by the league’s 12 head coaches.

The Red Storm received eight of a possible 11 first-place votes in the preseason poll. The coaches also chose St. John’s outfielder Jeremy Baltz as the BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year and named Louisville righthanded pitcher Justin Amlung the BIG EAST Preseason Pitcher of the Year. Top 100 Countdown: 31. Jeremy Baltz (St. John’s)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 31 with St. John’s junior outfielder Jeremy Baltz. The Vestal, NY native attended the local Vestal High School where he was a four-time New York State scholar-athlete. He earned a total of three letters in baseball while helping the Golden Bears win three straight sectional titles and two conference championships. He was a two-time all-division selection while being named all-conference as a senior. He was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 45th round in the 2009 MLB Draft but decided to attend St. John’s. LITTLE ROCK – Junior Tyler Buckley pitched four scoreless innings to help the Maroon Team even UALR’s Fall World Series with a 2-1 victory over the Silver Team Wednesday afternoon at Gary Hogan Field.
