Henderson, 50, succeeds his longtime friend Dan Callahan, who passed away on Nov. 15. For Henderson, the 2011 season marks his 21st year working with the Saluki baseball program. Continue reading →
CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois University head baseball coach Dan Callahan died Monday at his home in Carterville, Ill.
Callahan, 52, lost a courageous battle with neurotropic melanoma, a rare form of skin cancer. He is survived by his wife, Stacy, daughters, Alexa (19) and Carly (14), and parents Ann and Gene. Continue reading →
CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois head baseball coach Dan Callahan announced Tuesday that the Salukis have hired P.J. Finigan as the new assistant coach in charge of the SIU pitching staff.
Finigan, who was an infielder/pitcher for the Salukis from 2002-05, was the 2005 Joe Carter Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year. He was a seventh-round draft pick of the Detroit Tigers and pitched for four seasons in its system.

Southern Illinois adds 10 for 2010-2011 Season
CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois head baseball coach Dan Callahan announced Wednesday that the Salukis have signed 10 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent to play baseball and attend school beginning in the fall of 2010.
The Salukis inked nine high school athletes and one from the junior college ranks. Of the 10 signees, six are pitchers (one left-hander and five right-handers), two are infielders and there is one catcher and one outfielder in the class.
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Missouri Valley Conference Commissioner Doug Elgin announced Thursday that Dan Callahan, head baseball coach at Southern Illinois University, has been selected as the 2009 recipient of the league’s Most Courageous Award.
The Missouri Valley Conference presents the Most Courageous Award to a past or present student-athlete, coach or university administrator who demonstrates unusual courage in the face of personal illness, adversity or tragedy and whose behavior reflects honor on the institution or the Conference. Individuals receiving the award might also have performed heroic feats or otherwise inspired others.
With the 2009 College World Series still in progress, the Southern Illinois Salukis have turned their attention toward the 2010 baseball season. The Salukis finished the 2009 campaign with a disappointing 24-28 overall record and fifth place finish in the Missouri Valley Conference with an 11-9 conference record.
The Salukis will begin the 2010 season with a three game series on the road at Arkansas State on February 19-21. Continue reading →
