2012 CBD Season Preview: Southland Conference
Last season was all about Texas State. The Bobcats went in with the top pitcher, and found out quickly they also had the top hitter in the Southland. RHP Carson Smith is gone, but 1B Casey Kalenkosky, an NJCAA All-American turned NCAA All-American, is back for another round. Coach Ty Harrington only lost a few starters on the field, and returned a strong nucleus of hitters to go along with a pitching staff that was more than capable of getting the team to the NCAA postseason. 2011 CBD Season Preview: Southland Conference
2010 saw three Southland teams with a chance to make the postseason, but tournament champion Lamar was the only team in, as Texas State and Southeastern Louisiana were left to think about next year. This year, the league belongs to the Bobcats and Lions, as both teams return a wealth of talent. Texas State is led by All-American candidate P Carson Smith, the league’s top prospect. Southeastern Louisiana returns most of their team, minus closer Chris Franklin. Read the rest of this entry »

Texas State Repeats as Top Seed for Southland Baseball Tournament

FROM CBB NEWS SOURCE
FRISCO, Texas – After defending its title from a season ago, Texas State will again be the top seed in the 2010 Southland Conference Baseball Tournament when it begins Wednesday at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, Texas. The Bobcats claimed their fourth regular-season championship and second outright title on the final day of the regular season with a 34-20 overall record and a 23-10 mark in conference play.
Southland Conference Recap for May 21st
FROM SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE RELEASE
Texas State can win the Southland Conference title outright with a victory Saturday against UT Arlington. The Bobcats can also earn a share of the regular-season championship in defeat provided that Northwestern State also loses in its series finale vs. Southeastern Louisiana. The Lions and Bobcats would finish with identical conference records in that scenario and while they would share the conference regular-season title, Southeastern would be the No. 1 seed in next week’s conference tournament since it won two of three games against Texas State earlier this season. Northwestern State can win an outright championship should it beat Southeastern on Saturday and Texas State lose. The eighth and final seed is still not determined entering the final day of the regular season. Nicholls leads UTSA by one game. A Colonels’ win or a Roadrunners’ loss puts Nicholls in the tournament. A Colonels’ loss and a UTSA win send the Roadrunners to Corpus Christi for the tournament since the Roadrunners own the tiebreaker between the teams by virtue of its regular-season sweep.
