The weekend’s Summit League matchup at Alfred D. Boyer Stadium in Macomb, Ill., will pit a South Dakota State (7-10, 0-3) team that is trying to find its way against a Western Illinois (3-12, 1-2) squad that has struggled mightily on the mound and at the plate.
The Jackrabbits have dropped four straight and are 0-3 in the Summit League –you can’t hide from that. But what the record doesn’t tell you is that of SDSU’s ten losses, six are by two runs or fewer, including three of the last four.

Twenty-one home games at Erv Huether Field and a new Summit League format highlight the 2015 schedule for the South Dakota State University baseball team.
The Jackrabbits, who finished last season with a 28-29 overall record and an 11-11 mark in league play, are slated to open the 2015 season with three games at a tournament hosted by Austin Peay (Tenn.). ELMHURST, Ill. – Omaha is favored to repeat as The Summit League baseball regular season champion in a preseason vote among the league’s head coaches.
The Mavericks received three first-place votes and a total of 15 points. South Dakota State came in second with 12 points and one first-place vote while North Dakota State had 10 points for third place. San Francisco has played 24 innings in two days, and are now guaranteed at least another nine, after the Dons defeated South Dakota 4-3 in 13 innings in the Eugene Regional at PK Park.

In the Eugene Regional’s nightcap, the #1 seed Oregon Ducks squared off against the #4 seed South Dakota State Jackrabbits at PK Park in Eugene, Ore.

#1 Seed Oregon Ducks
The Oregon Ducks and PK Park were once again selected as a regional host site for the second straight year. The announcement that a regional would take place in Eugene again, made Oregon one of eight programs (Florida State, LSU, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Virginia, and UCLA) to be awarded back-to-back hosting opportunities. ELMHURST, Ill. – North Dakota State was favored to capture its first Summit League Baseball Tournament title in a preseason vote among the league’s six head coaches. The Bison received five first-place votes and a total of 25 points.
South Dakota State placed second with 17 points, followed closely by Oakland who received the final first-place vote and 16 points. The Golden Grizzlies received the final first-place vote.
