The number one overall seeded North Carolina Tarheels will face the South Carolina Gamecocks in a best of three series at UNC’s Boshamer Stadium, with the winner advancing to Omaha. The Tarheels and Gamecocks are scheduled to play their first game on Friday at 1:00pm, the second game will be on Saturday at 12:00pm and if necessary the third game will be played on Sunday at 1:00pm but Tropical Storm Andrea might have something to do with changing that. COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina defeated Liberty 6-4 on Monday afternoon to claim the NCAA Columbia Regional title at Carolina Stadium, securing the program’s fourth straight trip to the Super Regionals.
It will be the Gamecocks’ (42-18) 11th trip to the Super Regionals in the last 14 years, which ranks second in the nation behind Florida State during that span. The win is South Carolina’s 27th-straight postseason win at home, including a 16-0 mark at Carolina Stadium. Continue reading
A strong effort by Liberty starting pitcher Trey Lambert and four hits by second baseman Bryan Aanderud, helped push the Liberty Flames past the Clemson Tigers, 3-1, Sunday afternoon in a Columbia, S.C. Regional elimination game at Carolina Stadium.
Lambert moves to 8-3 on the year, allowing one run on seven hits during his 7 2/3 innings of work. He struck out one and walked two batters. However, the key for the right-hander was that he stranded two Tigers at third base and three at second base. Continue reading
Columbia, SC – Steve Wilkerson hit two homers with five RBIs and Daniel Gossett pitched 6.0 effective innings to lead #17 Clemson to a 10-2 win over Saint Louis in the Columbia Regional in front of 5,485 fans at Carolina Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers, who evened their record in the regional at 1-1 and snapped their six-game losing streak, improved to 40-21 on the season. COLUMBIA, S.C. – Catcher Trey Wimmer knocked in a career-high six runs and right-hander Josh Richardson pitched his third complete game of the year, leading the Big South Champion Liberty Flames past the Clemson Tigers, 8-3, in Game 1 of the NCAA Columbia, S.C. Regional at Carolina Stadium.
Wimmer drove in a career-high six runs with two hits, a two-run double and three-run home run to go along with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. Playing in his home state, the Greenwood, S.C., native connected for his fifth round tripper of the year in the sixth inning to give Liberty a five-run cushion at the time. Continue reading
In what seems like a yearly event, South Carolina will play host to their fourth consecutive regional and 15th all-time regional as the No. 1 seed of the Columbia Regional. The Gamecocks will welcome in-state foe No. 2 seed Clemson for the second straight year. South Carolina defeated the Tigers two out of three this season. As top seeded Vanderbilt met up with the four seed of South Carolina, it was an expected matchup with how the bracket was set up, but on the other side of the bracket. As both teams had lost their opening games, they met up in an elimination game faced with the reality that one of these teams would be going home earlier than expected. It took extra innings to decide, but eventually Vanderbilt sent South Carolina back to Columbia with a 4-3 win over the Gamecocks. Continue reading
