2010 Team USA Collegiate National Team Roster Announced

USABaseballPic CARY, N.C. — USA Baseball announced Sunday night the 22 members of its 2010 Collegiate National Team. The roster is headlined by pitchers Gerrit Cole (UCLA), Sonny Gray (Vanderbilt) and infielder Brad Miller (Clemson), who were all members of the 2009 National Team.

This year’s squad consists of five infielders, four outfielders, two catchers, nine pitchers and a pair of two-way players. The Collegiate National Team was selected after seven days of trials that included six intra-squad games and practices as the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. Team USA is comprised of the top non-draft-eligible college players in the United States.

Gougler was the only Lion with multiple hits, putting up a line of two-for-three with two runs scored and a walk.

Southeastern Louisiana 4, Texas Southern 1

HAMMOND, La. – The 2010 Southeastern Louisiana baseball team now has the school’s all-time best winning streak all to itself. After tying the mark Friday, the Lions broke it Saturday, taking their 11th straight game to improve to 11-0 on the year. The 4-1 victory over Texas Southern also clinched the series for Southeastern.

Southland Conference Recap 03/05/2010

Russo allowed seven hits and three runs in his 7.2 innings of work. The senior struck out a career-high eight batters.

Texas State 5, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 3

SAN MARCOS, Texas – After trailing the majority of the game, Texas State spurred a four-run eighth-inning rally and earned its first win of the Southland Conference season with a 5-3 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Friday night at Bobcat Field.

Texas State improves to 4-4 on the season and 1-0 in league play, while A&M-Corpus Christi falls to 5-3 and 0-1, respectively.

San Diego picked to win 2010 WCC Title

JamesMeador San Diego was picked as the favorite to win this year’s WCC regular season title in the 2010 preseason baseball poll, as voted on by the head coaches in the conference. The Toreros received six first place votes for a total of 48 points and are ranked 24th in Collegiate Baseball’s preseason poll. Pepperdine was picked second with 38 points and is also receiving national recognition, ranked 34th in the Collegiate Baseball’s preseason poll. San Francisco totaled 33 points for third, while 2009 WCC Champion Gonzaga got one first place vote for 29 points to finish fourth, just edging out 2009 runner-up Loyola Marymount, which received 28 points for fifth. Rounding out this year’s preseason poll are Santa Clara, which received the last first place vote with 20 points, Saint Mary’s with 17 points, and Portland with 11 points.

USA Baseball Finalizes 2010 Collegiate National Team Coaching Staff

CBB Column: Top 5 Candidates for Arizona State

ASULogo Here are my Top Five choices to take over the Arizona State baseball program for the 2011 season if I was in Lisa Love’s position. Tim Esmay was named the Interim head coach for the 2010 season on December 3rd. The new coach will have to deal with potential NCAA or university sanctions from an ongoing investigation into the baseball program. This might end up pushing some candidates away from the job.

San Francisco Baseball helps in Community Events

SanFranMarathon The USF baseball team volunteered in several community service events this fall. Some highlights include the Nike Women’s Marathon and the FCA Pro and College Baseball Youth Challenge.

During the Nike Women’s Marathon the team shared their encouragement at the finish line where they handed out thousands of t-shirts to finishers. One lady commented on the team’s performance and said, "It really makes a difference to see familiar, friendly faces, and to be recognized and encouraged by volunteers. I had a great race, and the participation of you and your volunteers was no small part of that. Many thanks!"

College of Charleston signs Nine for 2010-2011 Season

College of Charleston baseball coach Monte Lee announced Tuesday the signing of nine student-athletes to national letters of intent for the 2011 season.

The class is made up of six position players and three pitchers from four different states. The class consists of five high school players and four junior college players.

"I’m extremely excited about the 2010 class," said second-year Cougar coach Monte Lee. "Coach (Dan) Roszel and coach (Chris) Morris have done an outstanding job of bringing in top rate talent that will impact our program as soon as they set foot on campus."
