Pac-12 Weekend Preview (March 1st-3rd)

Pac12LogoCoach’s Corner

In preparing for the weekend, I caught up with Oregon State head coach Pat Casey to talk about his thoughts on how the season has gone so far for the Beavers. Oregon State is 8-0 and off to their best start since 1962. “Obviously when you start 8-0, you feel like you did a lot of things well,” Casey said. We played fairly well on the defensive side of the game. I think we could have swung the bats better.” The Beavers enter the weekend with a .297 team batting average, but will look to improve upon that number against a team in Bryant who has only played three games this season. Pepperdine’s Davidson & Meyer Discuss Day of Home Runs

Joe Sever and David DiPaola greet Austin Davidson after his HR.MALIBU, Calif. — Corner infielders are supposed to provide pop in the lineup. Pepperdine first baseman Sam Meyer and third baseman Austin Davidson did just that Saturday afternoon in the Waves’ 8-3 win over visiting San Francisco (23-27, 9-8).

Davidson hit a three-run homer off the scoreboard in right field in the sixth inning and Meyer crushed the first pitch of the seventh inning way beyond the left field fence. The corner infield duo combined to reach base six times and drive in five of the Pepperdine (25-18, 8-6) runs.

San Francisco P Abe Bobb Talks About His First Career Complete Game

Abe Bobb threw a complete game for San Francisco.MALIBU, Calif. — Pitcher Abe Bobb threw a four-hit, two-run complete game to lead San Francisco to a 7-2 win over Pepperdine Friday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium.

Bobb allowed a leadoff single in the first before retiring 18 hitters in a row. A single in the seventh inning led to an unearned run and Bobb allowed a run in the ninth inning on a single and a double. That was the extent of Pepperdine’s offensive attack as Bobb mixed his pitches and attacked the Waves’ hitters with his fastball.

He struck out five.

Abe Bobb struck out five in his two-run complete game.MALIBU, Calif. —  San Francisco’s Friday starter pitched like you would expect a likely top 10 draft pick to pitch. However, San Francisco ace Kyle Zimmer, who will almost certainly be one of the top players selected in the MLB amateur draft next month, cheered from the dugout, nursing a hamstring injury.

Abe Bobb was the one dominating on the mound.

Bobb pitched his first career complete game — a four-hitter — in the Dons’ 7-2 victory over Pepperdine at Eddy D. Field Stadium Friday afternoon.

Video: Kyle Zimmer Thankful for Some Run Support

Kyle Zimmer pitches to Alex Guthrie.LOS ANGELES — San Francisco took the series opener from West Coast Conference foe Loyola Marymount 13-9 Saturday afternoon at Page Stadium.

The Dons (15-22, 2-5) didn’t get the typical stellar outing from ace pitcher Kyle Zimmer (3-3), but the offense picked up the slack. The offense provided Zimmer with five runs in the third inning and 12 runs overall — the most support he’s received all season.

Zimmer pitched seven innings, allowing six earned runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out five LMU (14-15, 4-3) batters.

CBD Photo Gallery: Kyle Zimmer Gets Win Despite Struggles

Nik Balog slides into home.LOS ANGELES — San Francisco ace Kyle Zimmer didn’t have his best stuff Saturday afternoon, but it was enough to get a 13-9 win over Loyola Marymount at Page Stadium.

Zimmer (3-3) had probably his worst outing of the season, allowing six earned runs on eight hits and three walks. But the Dons offense supplied Zimmer an early cushion and plenty of support as the Dons (15-22, 2-5) knocked 17 hits.
