Sam Houston State releases 2013 Schedule

The Sam Houston State baseball team announced its schedule for the 2013 campaign, highlighted by 30 games at Don Sanders Stadium. The 2012 Southland Conference champions will host in-state rivals Baylor, Houston, Rice, and Texas A&M in non-conference play.

Rhode Island:  Keaney 3 Navy 2

Darkness forced the suspension of Game Two in the Keaney-Navy World Series on Friday evening, but when play resumed on Saturday, sophomore Joe Landi scored on redshirt junior Pat Fortunato’s single up the middle to give Keaney the 3-2 win, as well as its fifth consecutive KNWS title. Sean Allen, Philip Miller named SHSU baseball assistant coaches

Sam Houston State names David Pierce Head Coach

HUNTSVILLE – Sam Houston State director of athletics Bobby Williams has announce that David Pierce will be the next head coach of the Bearkat Baseball team.

Southland Conference Tournament Day 3 Thoughts

Game 1: Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 3, UTSA 2.

  • The Buckner family name is known famously for one play, but TAMU-CC 3B Bobby Buckner did a good job trying to change the family legacy. With 2 outs and a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the ninth, Buckner placed an 0-2 offering on top of the right-center wall for the game-winner. The shot knocked out the Roadrunners, and kept the Islanders alive to play against Stephen F. Austin at 4 PM. Read the rest of this entry »

2011 CBD Season Preview: Southland Conference

2010 saw three Southland teams with a chance to make the postseason, but tournament champion Lamar was the only team in, as Texas State and Southeastern Louisiana were left to think about next year. This year, the league belongs to the Bobcats and Lions, as both teams return a wealth of talent. Texas State is led by All-American candidate P Carson Smith, the league’s top prospect. SHSU’s Mark Johnson set to Retire at End of Season

Mark Johnson, head baseball coach at Sam Houston State University the past four years and a veteran of 41 years in the coaching profession, announced Wednesday that he will retire at the end of the 2011 season.

Johnson’s 25-year record as a head coach at SHSU and Texas A&M stands at 1,008 victories, 540 losses and three ties. He is the 44th head coach all-time to total 1,000 coaching wins at the NCAA Division I level and ranks 17th in total victories by active baseball head coaches. Read the rest of this entry »
