Former SMC pitcher Dylan Chavez looking for a New Team
Former St. Mary’s College LHP Dylan Chavez is currently visiting schools as he nears a decision where he will continue his collegiate career. Chavez spent his freshman season in 2010 with St. Mary’s College in California where he appeared in 18 games (2 starts) while going 1-1 with a 6.15 ERA in 26.1 innings pitched. He has transferred to American River College for this coming spring but is currently looking at Ole Miss, Miami (FL), Oregon, Oregon State, and Arizona State for the 2012 season.
San Diego picked to win 2010 WCC Title

San Diego was picked as the favorite to win this year’s WCC regular season title in the 2010 preseason baseball poll, as voted on by the head coaches in the conference. The Toreros received six first place votes for a total of 48 points and are ranked 24th in Collegiate Baseball’s preseason poll. Pepperdine was picked second with 38 points and is also receiving national recognition, ranked 34th in the Collegiate Baseball’s preseason poll. San Francisco totaled 33 points for third, while 2009 WCC Champion Gonzaga got one first place vote for 29 points to finish fourth, just edging out 2009 runner-up Loyola Marymount, which received 28 points for fifth. Rounding out this year’s preseason poll are Santa Clara, which received the last first place vote with 20 points, Saint Mary’s with 17 points, and Portland with 11 points.
St. Mary’s adds 18 for 2010 Season

Moraga, CA - There will be a number of new faces out at Louis Guisto Field next week when the Saint Mary’s College Baseball team begins fall practice. Head coach Jedd Soto brought in 16 student-athletes to compete for a position on the 2010 roster. The incoming class includes 10 pitchers, five infielders, two outfielders, and one catcher.
St. Mary’s announces Three-Year extension for Jedd Soto

Moraga, CA – Saint Mary’s College Director of Athletics and Recreational Sports Mark Orr, announced a contract extension for head baseball coach Jedd Soto. Soto, the school’s third winningest coach since 1968, has received a three-year contract extension, which keeps Soto under contract through the 2012 season.
“I’m very pleased to continue Jedd Soto’s leadership of the baseball program,” said Orr. “The progress this program has had under his leadership has been impressive. His ability to recruit and develop quality student-athletes is something I look forward to seeing him continue to do for years to come.
