ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis head baseball coach Darin Hendrickson has announced the Billikens’ 2015 schedule.
“This schedule is by far the most competitive we have had at Saint Louis” Hendrickson said. “We open with 10 tough road games. All those contests are at great venues and stadiums to energize us for the season ahead. We play projected NCAA Regional teams in Ohio State and Illinois and a vastly improved Iowa club. NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Reigning champion Saint Louis has been picked atop the 2014 Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll.
SLU received 11 of the 12 first-place votes for 143 points. VCU nabbed the remaining first-place nod and a total of 122 points which was good for second-place, two points better than Rhode Island which placed third. Richmond was slotted in fourth-place with 104 points, followed by the A-10’s newest member George Mason in fifth with 90 points.
Saint Joseph’s (81 pts.) and George Washington (68 pts.) finished in sixth and seventh place, respectively, followed by La Salle (60 pts.), Fordham (43 pts.), Dayton (40 pts.), Massachusetts (36 pts.) and St. Bonaventure (29 pts.). Continue reading 2014 Atlantic 10 Preseason Coaches Poll
Update #2: St. Louis head coach Darin Hendrickson removed his name from consideration on Tuesday as he didn’t believe it was the best opportunity for him and his family.
Update #1: St. Louis and Darin Hendrickson are refuting the report but we have spoken to many sources around the Iowa program that Hendrickson will be named the new coach.
College Baseball Daily has learned from sources close to the situation that Iowa will name Darin Hendrickson as the Hawkeyes head coach. Hendrickson led the Billkens to a 41-21 overall record while going 17-7 in Atlantic 10 play. He brought the squad to the NCAA Tournament after winning the 2013 Atlantic 10 postseason tournament but went 0-2 in the Columbia, SC regional with losses to South Carolina and Clemson. He has a career coaching record of 688-323 in 18 years of coaching on the collegiate level which includes stops at Central Missouri, St. Louis Community College Forest Park, and Fontbonne University. Columbia, SC – Steve Wilkerson hit two homers with five RBIs and Daniel Gossett pitched 6.0 effective innings to lead #17 Clemson to a 10-2 win over Saint Louis in the Columbia Regional in front of 5,485 fans at Carolina Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers, who evened their record in the regional at 1-1 and snapped their six-game losing streak, improved to 40-21 on the season. COLUMBIA, S.C. – Catcher Trey Wimmer knocked in a career-high six runs and right-hander Josh Richardson pitched his third complete game of the year, leading the Big South Champion Liberty Flames past the Clemson Tigers, 8-3, in Game 1 of the NCAA Columbia, S.C. Regional at Carolina Stadium.
Wimmer drove in a career-high six runs with two hits, a two-run double and three-run home run to go along with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. Playing in his home state, the Greenwood, S.C., native connected for his fifth round tripper of the year in the sixth inning to give Liberty a five-run cushion at the time. In what seems like a yearly event, South Carolina will play host to their fourth consecutive regional and 15th all-time regional as the No. 1 seed of the Columbia Regional. The Gamecocks will welcome in-state foe No. 2 seed Clemson for the second straight year. South Carolina defeated the Tigers two out of three this season. No. 3 seed Liberty and No. 4 seed Saint Louis round out the regional.
