PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph’s head baseball coach Fritz Hamburg has announced the Hawks’ 2013 schedule, which features 24 home games on the 52-game docket.
The 2013 season will be the second year of play at John W. Smithson Field on the Maguire Campus. The opening of the new field coincided with SJU’s first-ever Atlantic 10 Championship berth and the Hawks’ first Liberty Bell Classic title. Charlotte Tabbed To Repeat As A-10 Champion

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After capturing a share of its third regular season title in the past four years, Charlotte has been selected to win the 2010 Atlantic 10 baseball title in voting conducted by the league’s head coaches. Xavier, the 2009 A-10 Tournament Champion, was picked second, while Dayton, the 2009 Conference regular season champion, rounds out the top three.
Charlotte looks to repeat as Atlantic 10 regular season champions for the second time since joining the league during the 2006 campaign. The 49ers last took back-to-back league titles in 2007 and 2008. Charlotte has won three titles in the last five seasons as a member of the league, capturing 96 conference victories — 10 more than the next highest team total during that span. Veteran head coach Loren Hibbs returns 21 letterwinners, including six position starters and 11 pitchers, from a team that went 39-17 overall last season. On the mound, Charlotte also returns all three weekend starters from a year ago, with a combined 16-8 season record, along with redshirt senior relief pitcher Bryan Hamilton, who recently garnered Preseason All-America status.

Dayton picked to win A-10 Title by League Coaches

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - After winning a program-record 38 games and capturing its first-ever regular season crown a year ago, Dayton has been selected to win the 2010 Atlantic 10 baseball title in voting conducted by the league’s head coaches.
Four-time champion Charlotte has been picked second, while defending league champ Xavier is third.
St. Joe’s signs nine for 2010-2011 Season

PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph’s head coach Fritz Hamburg has announced the signing of nine student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. The new additions will come to Hawk Hill in time for the start of the 2011 season.
Included in the class are catcher Nuri Gunes, infielders Spencer Judge, Kevin Kratochwill, and Michael Muha, and pitchers Jordan Carter, Brett Koliani, Taylor Mahoney, Danny Thorpe, and Jimmy Yacabonis.
St. Joe’s set to play 2010 in Camden NJ

PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph’s University and the Camden Riversharks have reached an agreement that will allow Saint Joseph’s to play its entire 25-game 2010 home schedule at Campbell’s Field in Camden, N.J.
The move to Campbell’s Field is the first step in the planned transition to playing home games at an on-campus facility in the near future. A new home field for the Hawks is included in the University’s master plan for the use of the space on the Maguire Campus that opened in 2008. Read the rest of this entry »
Saint Joseph’s Baseball Inks Four to National Letters of Intent

PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph’s head baseball coach Fritz Hamburg has announced that four standout student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to play baseball at Saint Joseph’s University beginning in 2010.
Kevin Burum, a 6-foot-5 righthanded pitcher from Robbinsville, N.J., had a 4-3 record and a 2.20 earned run average as a junior, helping Robbinsville High School advance to the New Jersey Group 1 Championship Game. Burum started four of the team’s five state playoff games, including the final, and was named Honorable Mention All-Conference. This past summer, he notched a 7-1 record and a 0.77 ERA as the Mercer County American Legion League Pitcher of the Year.

Fritz Hamburg Named Saint Joseph’s Head Baseball Coach

Fritz Hamburg has been named the head baseball coach at Saint Joseph’s University, it was announced today by director of athletics Don DiJulia. Hamburg was previously the associate head baseball coach at the United States Military Academy.
“We’re pleased and excited to have Fritz on board as he owns a rich and well-rounded background in baseball,” said DiJulia. “We look forward to him enhancing the student-athlete experience in and out of the classroom, and on and off the field.”
