Richmond releases 2015 Schedule

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – University of Richmond head baseball coach Tracy Woodson announced the Spiders’ 2015 schedule on Thursday.

The 57-game slate features 29 home games at Pitt Field, as well as eight contests against NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago. The difficult, non-conference slate features games against teams from the ACC, the AAC, the Big Ten, the Ivy League and the Big South. Continue reading

2014 Atlantic 10 Preseason Coaches Poll

Atlantic10_Main_LogoNEWPORT NEWS, VA – Reigning champion Saint Louis has been picked atop the 2014 Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Preseason Coaches Poll.

SLU received 11 of the 12 first-place votes for 143 points. VCU nabbed the remaining first-place nod and a total of 122 points which was good for second-place, two points better than Rhode Island which placed third.  Richmond was slotted in fourth-place with 104 points, followed by the A-10’s newest member George Mason in fifth with 90 points.

Saint Joseph’s (81 pts.) and George Washington (68 pts.) finished in sixth and seventh place, respectively, followed by La Salle (60 pts.), Fordham (43 pts.), Dayton (40 pts.), Massachusetts (36 pts.) and St. Bonaventure (29 pts.). Continue reading

Richmond names Tracy Woodson as Head Coach

TracyWoodsonUNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. – The University of Richmond announced Monday that Tracy Woodson has been named the eighth head coach of the Spider Baseball program.

Woodson, a five-year MLB veteran and World Series Champion, will be introduced at a press conference on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Robins Center. Fans will be able to watch the press conference live for free at RichmondSpiders.com. Continue reading

Richmond’s Mark McQueen resigns

MattZielinskiRichmond_thumb.jpg NBC12 in Richmond reported on May 20th, that McQueen and a student-athlete got into an altercation in the dugout. The report doesn’t state if it became physical or not. McQueen and assistant coach Tag Montague were suspended for the season ending series against Charlotte. A Richmond spokesman stated to CBD that Charlie Goens will be the acting head coach until a new one is hired and Tag Montague will still be an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator.

Ryan Wheeler named Head Coach at Temple

PHILADELPHIA – Ryan Wheeler, who has 15 years of Division I coaching experience including the last five as an assistant at Richmond, has been named the head baseball coach at Temple University, announced TU’s Director of Athletics Bill Bradshaw.

“We are thrilled to be able to bring on board a high-caliber person such as Ryan Wheeler to take over the reins of the Temple Baseball program,” Bradshaw said. “Ryan is one of the most respected assistant coaches in the East, and has the skill set and passion to take our program to new heights.” Continue reading
