2013 Raleigh Super Regional: NC State 5 Rice 4

ChrisOvermanNCStateFeaturedIConRALEIGH, N.C. – NC State advanced to its first College World Series since 1968 by winning the longest super regional game in history, 5-4, in 17 innings over Rice on Sunday at Doak Field at Dail Park.

The Wolfpack (49-14) tied the school record for most wins in a season, but they had to do it with a riveting three-run ninth to force extra innings. Rice (44-20) took a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the bottom of the first, and extended it to 2-0 with another in the sixth. A third solo home run made the score 3-1 through seven after the Pack’s first run of the game in the top half. Continue reading

2013 Raleigh Super Regional: NC State 4 Rice 3

NCStateFeaturedRALEIGH, N.C. – NC State rallied for a dramatic 4-3 comeback win over Rice in game one of the Raleigh Super Regional on Saturday at Doak Field at Dail Park.

The Wolfpack (48-14) moved one win closer to Omaha, and pulled to within one victory of tying the program record for wins in a season by jumping ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the first. Rice scored once in the fourth and again in the fifth to even the score, before pulling ahead 3-2 in the top of the ninth. State responded with two runs in the bottom half to walk off with the 4-3 win. Continue reading

2013 Super Regional Preview: Raleigh

ElliotAventFeaturedNCStateThe Rice Owls, winners of both the regular season Conference USA championship and the Conference USA tournament championship, will be participating in their tenth Super Regional this weekend as they travel to North Carolina State.

The Owls were the winners of the Eugene Regional, in a field that included Oregon, South Dakota State, and San Francisco. Rice defeated Oregon 11-4, in the championship game on Monday. Continue reading

Healy Propels Oregon; Ducks and Owls Meet Tomorrow in Regional Championship

OregonTeamOOregon first baseman Ryon Healy is a player that can handle pressure.

Against Rice, with the Ducks facing elimination, Healy matched a career highs in hits (4) and RBI’s (4), as Oregon defeated Rice 11-0 Sunday evening in the Eugene Regional at PK Park.

“Healy felt good,” said head coach George Horton. “Certainly when you hit a home run it makes your back feel better. He had a huge day. He’s the monster in the middle of the lineup.” Continue reading

Stephens’ Gem Advances Rice in the Eugene Regional

Sophomore starter Jordan Stephens came into Saturday’s start with one career complete-game under his belt at Rice. After tonight, the 6’1 185 pound right-handed pitcher has another.

Stephens did not allow a run in nine innings and only gave up two hits, as the Rice Owls defeated the Oregon Ducks in Saturday’s nightcap in the Eugene Regional at PK Park.

Sun Drenched Liner Aids Rice; Owls Defeat San Francisco 3-2

GrahamRice_thumb.jpgThe #2 seed Rice Owls meet the #3 seed San Francisco Dons, Friday afternoon in game one of the Eugene Regional at PK Park.

In the bottom of the eleventh inning, a lower liner off the bat of first baseman Blake Fox, mixed with the afternoon sun and evaded San Francisco’s left fielder Derek Atkinson.

Center fielder Leon Byrd trotted home from second, resulting in a 3-2 Rice victory. Continue reading

2013 Eugene NCAA Regional Preview

HortonField#1 Seed Oregon Ducks

The Oregon Ducks and PK Park were once again selected as a regional host site for the second straight year. The announcement that a regional would take place in Eugene again, made Oregon one of eight programs (Florida State, LSU, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Virginia, and UCLA) to be awarded back-to-back hosting opportunities. It’s quite a feat if you consider that Oregon reinstated baseball in 2009. Continue reading

2013 NCAA Regional Projections (April 10th)

13regionalprojections_smAs we’re now just past the halfway mark of the 2013 college baseball season, College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to Selection Monday with our latest 2013 Regional Projections.

For this week’s projections, instead of being solely compiled based on RPI like they have been done in past weeks, every aspect was taken into consideration. College Baseball Daily’s Ginger Poulson (@gingerpoulson) compiled this list after analyzing RPI, overall records, conference standings, overall talent and several other factors.
