The Wolfpack (48-14) moved one win closer to Omaha, and pulled to within one victory of tying the program record for wins in a season by jumping ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the first. The Rice Owls, winners of both the regular season Conference USA championship and the Conference USA tournament championship, will be participating in their tenth Super Regional this weekend as they travel to North Carolina State.
The Owls were the winners of the Eugene Regional, in a field that included Oregon, South Dakota State, and San Francisco. Rice defeated Oregon 11-4, in the championship game on Monday. Continue reading

Against Rice, with the Ducks facing elimination, Healy matched a career highs in hits (4) and RBI’s (4), as Oregon defeated Rice 11-0 Sunday evening in the Eugene Regional at PK Park.
“Healy felt good,” said head coach George Horton. “Certainly when you hit a home run it makes your back feel better. He had a huge day. He’s the monster in the middle of the lineup.” Continue reading
Sophomore starter Jordan Stephens came into Saturday’s start with one career complete-game under his belt at Rice. After tonight, the 6’1 185 pound right-handed pitcher has another.
Stephens did not allow a run in nine innings and only gave up two hits, as the Rice Owls defeated the Oregon Ducks in Saturday’s nightcap in the Eugene Regional at PK Park.
In the bottom of the eleventh inning, a lower liner off the bat of first baseman Blake Fox, mixed with the afternoon sun and evaded San Francisco’s left fielder Derek Atkinson.

The Oregon Ducks and PK Park were once again selected as a regional host site for the second straight year. The announcement that a regional would take place in Eugene again, made Oregon one of eight programs (Florida State, LSU, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Virginia, and UCLA) to be awarded back-to-back hosting opportunities. It’s quite a feat if you consider that Oregon reinstated baseball in 2009. Continue reading

Conference USA announced its 2013 preseason baseball awards, as chosen by the league’s nine head coaches. Rice senior infielder Christian Stringer was chosen as the preseason Player of the Year, while Owls junior right-hander Austin Kubitza was named the preseason Pitcher of the Year. Rice was chosen to win the league’s championship. The Owls have won either the regular season or tournament championship in each of its seven years as a member of C-USA. Continue reading
