CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Liberty’s and Coastal Carolina’s baseball programs have been chosen as the favorites in the Big South Conference’s annual preseason poll for the 2013 season in a vote of the League’s Head Coaches, the League announced today. In addition, the coaches voted Campbell’s Michael Felton and Jeff Kemp of Radford the Conference’s Preseason Co-Players of the Year, while Aaron Burke of Coastal Carolina was named the Big South Preseason Pitcher of the Year. 2012 Preseason Big South Coaches Poll Released

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – For the fifth consecutive year, Coastal Carolina University’s baseball team has been voted the Big South Conference’s preseason favorite by the League’s Head Baseball Coaches, it was announced today by the Conference office. In addition, the coaches voted Presbyterian sophomore catcher/first baseman Brad Zebedis (Rock Hill, S.C.) the Conference’s Preseason Player of the Year and Coastal Carolina junior Josh Conway (Smithsburg, Md.) the League’s Preseason Pitcher of the Year. RADFORD, Va. – The top-ranked Virginia baseball team scored eight runs in the first two innings and never looked back in coasting to a 12-0 victory over Radford Tuesday evening at RU Baseball Stadium in Radford, Va. With the shutout win the Cavaliers broke the ACC single-season record for shutouts with their 12th shutout of the year; the record was held by the 1977 Clemson and 2005 Virginia teams. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The top-ranked Virginia baseball team earned a rain-shortened 4-0 win over Georgetown Tuesday evening at Davenport Field. CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Will Roberts (Jr., Richmond, Va.) followed up his perfect-game outing with seven innings of shutout pitching as he led the top-ranked Virginia baseball team to a 2-0 win over Radford Tuesday evening on Throwback Night at Davenport Field. Foley’s Quick Hits for March 29th
Here are some of my thoughts from college baseball action that took place on March 29th.
- Congrats to Will Roberts of Virginia for throwing a perfect game on Tuesday against the George Washington Colonials. Roberts struck out 10 batters getting three flyouts and 14 groundouts. The perfect game was only the 19th in NCAA Division 1 baseball history at any length and the first by a UVA pitcher in school history. It was also the first in Division 1 since 2002. Interesting enough, the second to last sentence of the George Washington press release is the first mention they make about the perfect game being tossed. Read the rest of this entry »

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Will Roberts (Jr., Richmond, Va.) recorded the eighth nine-inning perfect game in NCAA Division I baseball (since 1957) to lead the top-ranked Virginia baseball team to a 2-0 victory over George Washington Tuesday at Davenport Field.
