Kentucky sweeps Purdue

FROM PRESS RELEASE

Kentucky 6 Purdue 1

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Freshman shortstop Chris Wade launched a grand slam over the left-center field fence in the sixth inning, breaking open a 2-1 game, to lead the No. 4 Kentucky baseball team to a 6-1 win over the Purdue Boilermakers in game one of a twinbill, on Monday afternoon at Cliff Hagan Stadium.

Wade launched his third homer of the season, busting open what had been a pitching duel through the first five frames. Wade, who extended his hit streak to a team-high 10 games, has hit homers in two consecutive games. Wade finished the day 1-for-2 with four RBI. Continue reading Kentucky sweeps Purdue

BIG 12 scores from Saturday

Michael Torres

I did not make it out to the Disch today to watch the game between VCU and Texas. I was able to follow it on the radio and Texas made VCU paid for the 5 errors they committed. Freshman Cole Green got his first career start as a Longhorn against VCU Senior Cody Eppley. Cole did a great job of keeping the VCU Rams of balance for 4 innings and Keith Shinaberry came in the 5th and the 6th and gave up 3 of the 4runs that VCU scored. Chance Ruffin another Freshman closed out the 7th, 8th and 9th to get the save. Michael Toress had 5 rbis on the Day and Freshman Kevin Keyes continues his hot hitting as he went 2-3 and Sophomore Brandon Belt finally got it going with a 4-5 day at the plate.

Texas will be looking to close out the series with Kenn Kasparek on the mound. Kenn will be making his first appearance for Texas since he has been sideline since the Summer of ’06.

BIG 12 Recap from Friday 2/22

I will be providing the recaps of the games from the BIG 12 this season along with the press releases from those Schools.

No. 15 Bears Ware Out Purdue 2-1 Landis Ware’s two-run home run provided the offense, and Kendal Volz struck out 10 as No. 15 Baylor defeated Purdue 2-1 in Friday night’s 2008 season opener at Baylor Ballpark. This was the first-ever meeting between the Bears (1-0) and the Boilermakers (0-1) in baseball. It came in the Bears’ 300th game at Baylor Ballpark.

Ware, who earned the start at second base only because 2007 Freshman All-American Raynor Campbell is out with an injury, made good use of the opportunity, going 2-for-3 on the night. He doubled down the right-field line in his first at bat to lead off the third inning, but it was his seventh-inning at bat that decided the game. Paul Miles drew a two-out walk and stole second. On the next pitch, Ware turned on an inside fastball for the game-deciding home run.
