The Big Ten’s football and basketball status is established in the nation’s consciousness; a national football championship this season and basketball teams, in and out of the Top 25, making multiple trips to the Final Four. Baseball, however, continues fight for national respect; last season the Big Ten was ranked as the 10th best conference nationally. Continue reading 2015 Big Ten Conference Preview

There were six games on the Southern California schedule Tuesday afternoon and evening and five of them came down to the wire with four one-run games and a 9-7 battle down in San Diego. Tuesday’s tight-knit action piggy-backed Monday’s walk-off win for San Diego State
A roundup of all SoCal squads that were in action Tuesday with a photo gallery from Monday’s exiciting San Diego State/Purdue matchup:
Three games came down to the wire and required walk-off wins — two to help a pair of SoCal squads wrap up a series win and one to crush the heart of the opponent after a valiant comeback.
UCLA went for a sweep while USC tried to win its first Pac-12 series. Cal State Fullerton tried to rebound after being shutout Saturday night and something must be in the water in San Diego — a day after the Toreros put up 18 runs their crosstown rivals matched the output.

There were some aces that were missing their sharp kitchen utensils on Friday afternoon. Instead of knifing through lineups like they were ripened pears, pitchers like West Virginia’s Harrison Musgrave, Irvine’s Andrew Morales and Fullerton’s Thomas Eshelman struggled to have the success they normally have.
Granted, those three staff aces are still going to give their team a chance to compete every time out, so were their squads able to pick them up when they didn’t have their A+ stuff?
That plus all of Friday’s other Southern California college baseball action, including some photos from the last two days at Cal State Northridge, some highlights and clips from Pepperdine and Cal State Fullerton: Continue reading SoCal Roundup: Dull Aces

Jeff Duncan, former associate head coach at Purdue, was named the new head baseball coach at Kent State on Tuesday, as announced by Kent State Director of Athletics, Joel Nielsen.
“One year removed from the College World Series, this head coaching position was very attractive and it was evident throughout the search,” said Nielsen. “In no particular order, we set out looking for someone that could coach and motivate our current players and incoming class, a dynamic recruiter, a person familiar with successful college baseball in the North, a serious commitment to academics and a good role model. Needless to say, we’re excited to introduce Jeff Duncan to the Kent State community, along with his wife Lauren and son Bryce, and I’m looking forward to building on our success.
