Tony Thomas Jr. of Florida State has officially joined the Chicago Cubs organization after being a fourth round pick by the Chicago Cubs. He was named Collegiate Baseball’s Player of the Year after hitting .430 with 91 runs, 33 doubles, 11 homers, and 31 stolen bases in 2007. The Seminoles are in the process of signing Tony Delmonico who is transferring from the University of Tennessee and should compete for the starting job at second base in 2008.
The Tallahassee Democrat has an article in Jan. 18th edition about the expected new center fielder for the Seminoles. His name is Ruairi O’Connor who is entering his redshirt sophomore season. He missed the 2006 season with a wrist injury but in 2005 he contributed with in 40 games including 14 starts. He has a tough shoe to fill because Shane Robinson (former CF) was a two-time All-American and also the national player of the year in 2005. The full article is available here.
