Bucknell Rounds out Coaching Staff

LEWISBURG, Pa. – First-year Bucknell baseball head coach Scott Heather was promoted this past summer after eight years as an assistant with the Bison. On Friday, he announced the remainder of his coaching staff. Two-year assistant Jason Neitz was elevated to the top assistant position, while Patrick Rose, a four-year letterwinner on the baseball team at Cal Santa Barbara, and former Bucknell player B.J. Bucknell names Scott Heather as Head Coach

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Following a comprehensive national search, Bucknell director of athletics and recreation John Hardt announced on Monday that Scott Heather will succeed the retiring Gene Depew as the head coach of the Bison baseball program. Heather has spent the last eight years as an assistant coach at Bucknell, helping the Bison to a pair of Patriot League Tournament titles and NCAA appearances. Cape Cod Baseball League Players of the Week (June 18th)

With the first weekend of the season in the books, Mike Ahmed (Holy Cross) starts the season off strong and with some impressionable performances. In Bourne’s season-opener vs. Harwich Thursday, Ahmed showed his strength with a home run and three RBI.

Charlottesville Regional: Game 1 Recap

Freshmen Branden Cogswell and Brandon Downes combined to go 4-for-6, scoring two runs and adding four RBI and veteran Stephen Bruno added three hits and three RBI as top-seed Virginia (39-17-1) defeated No. 4 Army (41-14) 9-1 in game one of the 2012 Charlottesville Regional. 2012 Patriot League Preseason Coaching Poll Released

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Patriot League released the preseason baseball poll on Wednesday with both Navy and Bucknell tied at the top. Both teams were picked first with 39 points, while Navy received more first-place votes (five) than Bucknell (four). Army was picked just behind Navy and Bucknell with 38 points and one first-place vote, while Holy Cross took the fourth spot with 29 points and two first-place votes. Lafayette and Lehigh, respectively, rounded out the preseason poll, which is voted on by the Patriot League’s head coaches and sports information contacts. Longtime Bucknell Coach Gene Depew set to Retire

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Gene Depew, a 1971 Bucknell graduate who has coached at his alma mater for more than 40 years, including the last 31 as head baseball coach, has announced his retirement following the 2012 season. One of the longest-tenured coaches in Bucknell history in any sport, Depew enters his final season with 570 victories, more than five times the amount of any other Bison baseball coach. NCBWA Names 2012 Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List

(NCBWA) — Forty-five players have been named to the initial watch list for the eighth annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball, as announced by the association Wednesday. Lafayette’s Jeff Snell Atypical Journey

Lafayette’s Jeff Snell wasn’t even the best player at New Trier High School in Winnetka, Ill but has become the best player for the Lafayette Leopards. Interesting enough, is the fact that he ended up walking on the Leopards baseball program while having only the fall of 2008 to prove himself. He has brought himself all the way to pitch in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League which is regarded as one of the best summer leagues in the country.
