SEC Tournament Game Nine: Alabama vs. Ole Miss

Close Doesn’t Cut Itsec_baseball_13

The Alabama Crimson Tide sent the Ole Miss Rebels packing with a 7-5 extra innings victory.

“It’s always disappointing to finish here and not on the weekend. That’s the reason it’s the number one baseball conference in the country. This is the reason it’s the best tournament in the country. It’s very unforgiving. If you don’t play well, you lose” said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. Continue reading

SEC Tournament Game Five: Ole Miss vs. Arkansas

sec_baseball_13A Pitchers’ Duel

The Arkansas Razorbacks handed the Ole Miss Rebels their first loss of the SEC tournament as they defeated them 2-1 on Wednesday morning. The game was a pitchers’ duel with a run scored by each team in the first inning and none following until Brian Anderson scored the final run in extra innings on a wild pitch.

“It was a very well played game. Both pitchers and bullpens did a tremendous job. We got out of some jams. We both hit some line drives. We had the unfortunate play that would have been a two-run single and given us a two-run lead going into the ninth and it hits a runner in the foot. It just figures that the game would end on a wild pitch, the most exciting play in baseball next to the sacrifice fly. From our standpoint, we were glad to see it,”
said Razorback head coach Dave Van Horn. Continue reading

#6 Ole Miss (37-19, 15-14)

The Rebels have been a bit up and down throughout the season, however when Ole Miss is on their A-game, they can compete with the best.  Offensively, Rebel leadoff man Tanner Mathis is one of the hottest bats in the SEC coming off of a 7-10 weekend at LSU. Pair Mathis’s current hot-streak with the consistent bats of Turner, Mistone and Anderson, and the Rebel offense has the ability to do some damage in Hoover. Continue reading

Battle of the Bump

Pitching was the dominant factor for the Commodores and the Rebels this weekend, with all three games won by only a point or two.

Friday starters Bobby Wahl and Kevin Ziomek both shined in a much-anticipated pitcher’s duel. Ziomek earned the win, allowing only 1 run on three hits, with four walks and three strikeouts in 7.1 innings. Wahl gave up one unearned run on five hits and six walks, recording eight strikeouts in 6.2 innings of work. Continue reading
