RICHMOND, Va. (January 23, 2013) – UNCW, which captured its third CAA baseball championship in the past nine years last season, has been picked to win the conference title again in 2013 according to a vote of the league’s head baseball coaches.
The Seahawks received five first-place votes and finished atop the poll with 75 points. Hofstra picked up three first-place votes and was second with 69 points. James Madison was chosen third with 62 points and Delaware got two first-place votes and was fourth with 57 points. Chris Finwood has been hired as the new head coach at Old Dominion according to Tom Robinson of The Virginian Pilot. Finwood has spent the last four seasons in charge of the Western Kentucky program including bringing them to the NCAA Tournament in 2009. This is the second time that current Old Dominion atheltic director Wood Selig would hire Finwood. NORFOLK,VA -Old Dominion University head baseball coach Nate Goulet name Justin Haywood volunteer assistant coach. Haywood is a 2005 graduate of nearby Hickory High School.

NORFOLK, VA–Old Dominion University baseball coach Nate Goulet announced that former professional pitcher Tim LaVigne (Virginia Beach, Va.) has been named an assistant coach and will be working with the pitchers.
Since leaving professional baseball, LaVigne has volunteered at three Virginia Beach High Schools, coaching pitchers and providing help with mechanics and mental approach.

NORFOLK, VA—Old Dominion University Athletic Director Dr. Wood Selig announced today that assistant coach Nate Goulet has been named interim Head Baseball coach replacing Jerry Meyers who resigned to become the pitching coach at the University of South Carolina.
Meyers compiled a 167-158 record at ODU in six seasons and was named the 2006 Colonial Athletic Association’s Coach of the Year.
According to a report by TheBigSpur.com, Jerry Meyers will be the next pitching coach at South Carolina. Meyers has served the past six seasons as the head coach at Old Dominion where he had mixed success accumulating a record of 167-158 with his best finish coming in 2006 when they finished second in the conference.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending May 16, today. UC Riverside junior outfielder Tony Nix was named National Hitter of the Week, while Old Dominion junior right-hander C.J. Huyett was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.
