  • Baylor scored a pair in the 8th off a Josh Ludy RBI single and Michael Howard RBI walk.
  • Baylor’s 1-4 hitters were 6-12, with four walks, three runs, and two RBI. The remaining hitters were 0-16 with a pair of walks and an RBI.
  • 1B Max Muncy was 2-2 with two walks and a run.
  • RHP Josh Turley only last 4.2 innings, but he only gave up five hits and allowed a pair of unearned runs. Trent Blank was excellent in relief, picking up the victory with 3.1 innings of work, allowing one hit and a pair of walks. Dillon Newman picked up the save with a perfect ninth. Continue reading

2012 Big 12 Preseason Coaches Poll

Texas A&M has been unanimously selected as the preseason favorite to win the 2012 Big 12 baseball regular season title. In a vote by the league’s head coaches, the Aggies earned eight first place votes, totaling 64 points. In 2011, TAMU made its fifth College World Series appearance, claimed its second-straight Big 12 postseason crown and earned a share of the regular season title. The Aggies are ranked in the top 10 of all four preseason national polls entering the 2012 campaign. Continue reading

2012 CBD Season Preview: Big 12 (Part 1)

In 2012, the Big 12 will be without a former power, while saying farewell to a pair of teams and preparing to welcome another. With Nebraska officially gone to the Big Ten, the conference will take on a new shape with only nine members. Conference favorite, Texas A&M, is preparing to compete in their final Big 12 season before jumping ship to the powerful SEC with Missouri in tow. With all the departures, the conference decided to extend an invitation to recent powerhouse TCU, increasing the competition level. Continue reading

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 48 with Oklahoma redshirt sophomore LHP Jordan John. The 6’3 200 pound southpaw is from Corpus Christi, Texas and attended Calallen High School where he won three letters playing under Steve Chapman. As a senior, he went 13-0 striking out 125 with a microscopic ERA of 0.26 in 82 innings pitched. He was named USA Today First Team All-American, district MVP and all-state. Continue reading

Top 100 Countdown: 62. Dillon Overton (Oklahoma)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 62 with Oklahoma sophomore Dillon Overton. The Weatherford, Oklahoma native attended Weatherford High School where he was a four year letterwinner. His senior year saw him throw 97 innings accumulating a 15-2 record with 164 strikeouts and 19 walks. He was also an accomplished hitter with a .485 batting average with 17 home runs, 64 runs batted in, 15 doubles, three triples and two stolen bases during his senior season. Continue reading

Oklahoma adds Jack Giese to Coaching Staff

NORMAN, Okla. — Jack Giese (pronounced GEESE-ee), who spent the last two years as a pitching coach in the Tampa Bay Rays’ organization, was named to the Sooners’ baseball staff by head coach Sunny Golloway on Sunday.

Giese worked the past two seasons with the Hudson Valley Renegades, the Rays’ Class A affiliate, and also previously held scouting positions with the Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds. Continue reading

Texas Tech announces hiring of Oklahoma’s Tim Tadlock

LUBBOCK, Texas – Regarded as one of the top recruiters in the country, former Red Raider student-athlete and Oklahoma assistant coach Tim Tadlock will return to Lubbock as associate head baseball coach, Texas Tech fourth-year head coach Dan Spencer announced today.

Tadlock, 42, spent the previous six years producing several of the nation’s top recruiting classes at Oklahoma while helping lead the Sooners back to the College World Series in 2010. Continue reading
