Rodon overused; Duke defeats NC State 2-0 behind Van Orden
The top story of the night was the absolute criminal overuse of Carlos Rodon by the NC State coaching staff in the Wolfpack’s 2-0 defeat to Duke. Rodon was working on short rest and threw 134 pitches in 7.2 innings. Rodon in the game broke the NC State school record with 391 in the win. CLEVELAND, Ohio – 2013 Regular Season Champion Kent State was picked to repeat as MAC East Division & Tournament Champions, the Mid-American Conference announced Wednesday. Ball State, last year’s MAC Tournament runner-up was picked to win the West Division. The Flashes garnered four votes to win this year’s MAC Tournament, while Ball State garnered three votes to win the Tournament crown and NCAA automatic bid. Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Miami and Toledo each received one vote to win the Tournament. The preseason poll was voted on by the league’s 12 Head Coaches. ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio University baseball team announced its 2014 schedule on Monday. The 53-game slate features 23 home games, 24 Mid-American Conference contests and five matchups against teams that competed in the 2013 NCAA Championship.

Kansas 8 #1 LSU 4
BATON ROUGE, La. – Senior Robby Price went 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI, while junior relief pitcher Brett Bochy earned his second save of the weekend as Kansas earned a series victory over top-ranked LSU with an 8-4 win Sunday in the rubber game of the three game series Sunday.
The Jayhawks improve to 11-4, winning for the sixth time in their last seven games, while the defending national champion Tigers fall to 13-2 overall.

BATON ROUGE – LSU first baseman Blake Dean went 3-for-3, including a game-winning two-run home run in the seventh inning to power the top-ranked Tigers past the Kansas Jayhawks, 4-2, in Saturday afternoon in Alex Box Stadium.
With the win, the Tigers (13-1) even up the series at one game apiece and will face Kansas (10-4) in the rubber-match Sunday at 1 p.m. in Alex Box Stadium.

BATON ROUGE, La. – Senior Robby Price and junior Casey Lytle each had three hits and two doubles, while Brett Bochy pitched 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief as the Kansas Jayhawks knocked off previously unbeaten, and top-ranked Louisiana State, 11-9 Friday night in front of a packed house at Alex Box Stadium.
The Jayhawks improve to 10-3 overall, while LSU falls to 12-1 this season. The win was KU’s fourth-straight over the Tigers dating back to 2003, and the team’s fourth consecutive win over a No. 1-ranked team.

Cleveland, Ohio – Defending MAC Regular Season Champion Bowling Green and defending West Division Champion Ball State have been chosen by the league’s head coaches to win their respective divisions, released today by the league office. The Cardinals were also selected by six of the leagues head coaches to take home the 2010 MAC Tournament title.
The Falcons were followed by 2009 MAC Tournament Champion Kent State in the East, while Ohio was picked to finish third. Miami was selected to finish in fourth place, while Akron was tabbed to place fifth. Buffalo rounded out this year’s East Division predictions.

Among the First Team honorees are six players participating in this year’s College World Series including Arizona State starting pitcher Mike Leake, LSU starting pitcher Louis Coleman, Arizona State catcher Carlos Ramirez, UNC first baseman Dustin Ackley, ASU outfielder Jason Kipnis and Virginia utility player Danny Hultzen.
