In five games last week, Kreke hit .579 (11-for-19) with seven runs scored, a double, triple, three home runs and 12 RBI as the Panthers compiled a 4-1 record. Brodie Greene went 4-for-5 and Nick Anders hit two home runs to lead No. 3 Texas A&M to a 13-7 win over No. 5 Baylor Sunday afternoon before 3,880 fans at Olsen Field.

The Lumberjack baseball team kept the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils at bay for the majority of the afternoon, but MVSU was able to scrape across a run in the bottom of the ninth to pick up a season-opening 4-3 win over SFA at the rain-soaked ULM Warhawk Classic. BRENTWOOD, Tenn. — For the second year in a row, Jacksonville State has been picked as the preseason favorite for the nine-team league in a vote of Ohio Valley Conference head baseball coaches. The Gamecocks claimed the 2008 regular season championship with a 23-4 record last season but came up just short in the OVC Tournament. The CBB is still gathering the last of the 2009 College Baseball Schedules. One of our loyal readers sent us the LaSalle schedules and we have come across a few more today. The New York Times has a great article about Clay Zavada’s journey through the minor leagues. He was selected in the 30th round in 2006 where he received a $1,000 bonus which was barely enough to cover his deposit on his apartment. After the 2006 summer, Clay’s father died leaving the families property to him. He ended up losing touch with the Arizona Diamondbacks who subsequently dropped his contract. He ended up finishing up his degree in the spring of 2008 and with some encouragement from a friend went to an open tryout for the independent league member Southern Illinois Miners. A 32-game home schedule that features 13 of the first 14 games at Johnny Reagan Field highlights the 2009 Murray State baseball schedule, announced by head coach Rob McDonald on Wednesday.
Fans will get plenty of chances to see the ‘Breds early at the friendly confines of Johnny Reagan Field. The season gets underway on Feb. 20 with a three-game home stand against South Dakota State. After a midweek tilt at Memphis (Feb. 24), the ‘Breds will host a four-game series with Illinois State (Feb. 27-March 1), followed by a midweek game against Arkansas State (March 3), four games with North Dakota State (March 6-8) and a March 11 game against Mississippi Valley State.
