2013 Summit League Preseason Coaches Poll

NDSUBaseballELMHURST, Ill. – North Dakota State was favored to capture its first Summit League Baseball Tournament title in a preseason vote among the league’s six head coaches. The Bison received five first-place votes and a total of 25 points.

South Dakota State placed second with 17 points, followed closely by Oakland who received the final first-place vote and 16 points. The Golden Grizzlies received the final first-place vote. Western Illinois (15 points), Fort Wayne (nine points) and league newcomer Omaha (eight points) rounded out the poll. Read the rest of this entry »

Oakland releases 2013 Schedule

Oakland adds Two Assistant Coaches

ROCHESTER, Mich. — Ty Rogers and Ryan Hilton will join Oakland as assistant coaches for the 2012-13 season, head coach John Musachio announced on Wednesday. Missouri Valley Conference Weekend Recap (March 25th-27th)

Oh, the Midwest in March. As the teams of the Missouri Valley Conference entered their second-to-last weekend series before conference play, they received a less-than-warm welcome from a frigid cold front sweeping across the region. As a result, many teams saw their series cut-short (Creighton didn’t even play a game), leaving them to gear up for their mid-week games and—hopefully—warmer temperatures. The notable exception was Wichita State who traveled to #24 Oregon for a four game series. Wichita split the opening double-header, dropping the first game 2-1, yet scored two runs in the top of the ninth to win game two by a score of 6-4. Saturday night, Wichita played the longest game in Shockers history, winning a grueling 17-inning ordeal 6-5. However, the Shockers dropped the series finale 6-1 to ultimately split the series at 2 games apiece. Read the rest of this entry »

Game 1: #1 LSU 9 William and Mary 6
Game 2: #1 LSU 7 William and Mary 4

BATON ROUGE – No.1 LSU completed the weekend sweep of William and Mary as the Tigers captured both games of a Sunday doubleheader, winning Game 1 by a score of 9-6 and taking Game 2 by a 7-4 margin in Alex Box Stadium.

With the wins, the Tigers (7-0) completed their second series sweep of the season. William and Mary fell to 3-3 with Sunday’s losses.

BATON ROUGE- After trailing 8-0 in the middle of the sixth inning, No.1 LSU came back to score eight runs in the bottom of the sixth and two more in the seventh to defeat William and Mary, 10-9, Saturday afternoon in Alex Box Stadium.

The Tigers (5-0) notched their largest comeback victory since April 10, 1988 when they trailed Ole Miss, 13-3, through six innings and came back to win, 15-13. The loss was William and Mary’s first of the season, dropping the Tribe to 3-1.

FAYETTEVILLE – After giving up an early run, the No. 16 University of Arkansas baseball team rallied with the help of three home runs to defeat Troy, 10-1, Friday afternoon at Baum Stadium. Andy Wilkins, James McCann and Brett Eibner each had a home run for the Razorbacks, while TJ Forrest picked up the win out of the bullpen. Zack Cox and Tim Carver chipped in with two hits apiece.

Arkansas improves to 3-1 on the young season with the win, while Troy drops its second consecutive game to stand at 3-2.
