OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. (Nov. 21, 2011) – After 30 plus years of coaching the New York Institute of Technology baseball team, Bob Hirschfield announced his retirement in late September. Plans are being sought out to keep Hirschfield on staff in an advisory position. Current assistant coach Michael “Butch” Caulfield will serve as interim head coach for the upcoming 2012 season. Great West adds NYIT and Northern Colorado

The Great West has added New York Institute of Technology and the University of Northern Colorado as associate members in the sport of baseball for the 2009-10 academic year, commissioner Ed Grom announced today. The additions bring the total number of baseball schools in the Great West to eight members, joining Chicago State, Houston Baptist, NJIT, North Dakota, Texas-Pan American and Utah Valley. The CBB has come across seven more schedules for the 2009 College Baseball season. The seven schedules are for Loyola Marymount, Binghamton, Central Michigan, Monmouth, NYIT, Towson, Western Michigan.

Old Westbury, NY * Junior Mark Stuckless drove in a run for the second consecutive game, but NYIT took advantage of five Hofstra errors and a strong pitching performance from Mike LaLuna to win Wednesday afternoon’s non-conference contest, 7-2.
