SAN ANTONIO — Lamar benefitted from a big inning in game one and UTSA used a big inning in game two as the teams split a doubleheader in the first two games of their Southland Conference series at Roadrunner Field Saturday.
The 2009 baseball season begins Friday with 11 of the 12 Southland Conference teams in action. Texas State is the first conference team to play Friday, meeting Arkansas State in the UT Arlington/Hilton Invitational at 11 a.m., CDT. Stephen F. Austin, the lone league team not opening its season on Friday, tosses out its first pitch Saturday at 7 p.m. at Louisiana-Monroe at the ULM Warhawk Classic. Saturday’s Southland schedule features four doubleheaders. Lamar, Sam Houston State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UTSA all have a twin bill scheduled. All 12 schools are in action on Sunday.
