Number 60 in our countdown is New Mexico senior catcher Mitchell Garver from Albuquerque, New Mexico where he attended La Cueva High School. He was named first team all-state, first team all-district, first team all-metro. honorable mention All-American honors in 2009. Continue reading

New Mexico releases 2013 Schedule

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – If the University of New Mexico baseball team is going to return to the NCAA postseason for a fourth consecutive year in 2013, it will have to traverse yet another difficult schedule. Head coach Ray Birmingham released the team’s schedule for the 2013 season, and, like always, there are many tough, quality opponents, including 11 games against teams that made an NCAA regional in 2012. New Mexico hires Dan Spencer as Pitching Coach

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico baseball team is proud to announce the hiring of Dan Spencer as its new pitching coach. Spencer joins the Lobos after spending the last four seasons as the head coach of Texas Tech, compiling a 115-112 record.

NCBWA releases National Players of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)­ released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending May 20, today. New Mexico freshman outfielder Ryan Padilla was named National Hitter of the Week, while Stanford junior right-handed pitcher Mark Appel and Rice junior right-handed pitcher Tyler Duffey were named Co-National Pitchers of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

New Mexico Breaks Ground at Lobo Field

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico broke ground on renovations at Lobo Field, Tuesday, in what was a great day for the future of Lobo baseball. With the entire current team, which features 12 players from the state, and many former players in attendance, the university began making improvements in what it hopes will be just the first of many phases of the renovation. 2012 Mountain West Conference Preseason Coaches Poll

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Six-time defending Mountain West champion TCU is the unanimous favorite to win its seventh consecutive regular season MW baseball title in 2012, according to a vote of the five MW head coaches. The Horned Frogs received all five first-place votes and 25 points overall. UNLV edged out New Mexico for second place with 16 points, while the Lobos picked up 15 points in third place. San Diego State was picked fourth (12 points), followed by Air Force in fifth (7 points). Continue reading

University of New Mexico Releases 2012 Schedule

The University of New Mexico released its 2012 baseball schedule on Wednesday. The Mountain West conference member will play 32 home games this season at Isotopes Park as a part of a 56 game regular season schedule.

The Lobos will start play February 17th with a home series against Nevada. Their mettle will be tested three weeks into the season, when they host 2011 powerhouse Oklahoma on March 2nd. Continue reading
