SAN DIEGO – Pat Colwell’s two-out single in the bottom of the 11th inning drove home the winning run as San Diego State defeated New Mexico, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Colwell’s heroics made a winner of junior right-hander James McLaughlin (3-0), who had just come on in the top of the inning in relief of senior starter Shane Kaufman, who had pitched brilliantly over the first 10 frames. The hit was the fifth of the day for Colwell whose safeties included a double and four singles plus a sac bunt, run scored and the all-important RBI to end the contest.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The TCU Horned Frogs have been selected to win their third straight regular season Mountain West Conference baseball championship in 2008. In a vote of the seven MWC head coaches and a select media panel, the Horned Frogs received six of a possible nine first-place votes and 60 points, while BYU (three first-place votes) received 52 points to finish second in the poll. New Mexico has signed its third of the four baseball playing brothers of Kansas. The Carlson klan of Topeka has pretty solid genes. Three brothers, including former stud Chris Carlson, signed with New Mexico. One is at Missouri State.
