Postseason All-WAC Honors Announced

MESA, AZ – The Western Athletic Conference released its 2012 all-WAC baseball teams and postseason awards as selected by the league’s head coaches.  Sacramento State junior second baseman Andrew Ayers was named the Player of the Year and Nevada sophomore Bradey Shipley earned Pitcher of the Year honors. The Freshman of the Year award went to Sacramento State outfielder Rhys Hoskins. Sacramento State’s Reggie Christiansen was named WAC Coach of the Year.

Game 1: #3 North Carolina 10 Xavier 2

Carolina took a commanding four-run lead after the first inning in game one and never looked back en route to a 10-2 season-opening victory over Xavier.

Tommy Coyle opened the year as he finished 2011 by reaching base safely for the 30th consecutive game with a single to left field in the first. Colin Moran followed with a single of his own before Cody Stubbs was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Jacob Stallings. Continue reading

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami baseball team hosted its 2012 Fanfest and Alumni Game on Saturday night at Mark Light Field at Alex Rodriguez Park.

World Series champion outfielder Jon Jay, Minnesota Twins third baseman Danny Valencia, Oakland Athletics infielder Jemile Weeks and Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez were among the star-studded ProCanes alumni group in attendance. Continue reading

2012 WAC Preseason Coaches Poll Released

DENVER – Fresno State has been selected as the favorite to win the 2012 Western Athletic Conference regular season baseball crown in a vote by the league’s seven head coaches. The coaches also voted on a preseason all-WAC team with New Mexico State leading the way as it placed five players on the team. New Mexico State junior catcher Zac Fisher was named the preseason player of the year, while San Jose State junior Zack Jones was picked the preseason pitcher of the year. Continue reading

NCBWA Names 2012 Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List

Mike Evans joins NMSU Coaching Staff

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – New Mexico State baseball head coach Rocky Ward announced that Mike Evans is the new assistant coach for the Aggie baseball team, Tuesday, June 21.

Before joining Ward’s staff as the new pitching coach, Evans was the head coach at Bellevue University for 22 seasons. While at Bellevue, he tallied a 928-457-1 record and led the Bruins to 12 NAIA World Series appearances while earning a NAIA National Championship in 1995. Continue reading

Fresno State junior outfielder Dusty Robinson was named the Player of the Year and Fresno State senior Greg Gonzalez earned Pitcher of the Year honors. The Freshman of the Year award went to Fresno State outfielder Aaron Judge. Hawai‘i’s Mike Trapasso was named WAC Coach of the Year.

FORT WORTH, Texas – A Kyle Von Tungeln home run in the seventh inning broke a 3-3 tie and helped propel the TCU Varsity baseball team to a 5-3 win over the Alumni squad Saturday afternoon.
