Liberty set to open New Stadium for 2013 Season


Liberty University earlier this month continued its march toward becoming a prominent collegiate athletics program by announcing the planned construction of a new baseball stadium next to its recently expanded Arthur L. Williams football complex.

The construction of the new baseball stadium, which will cost in excess of $5 million, is the latest dramatic improvement to athletics facilities at Liberty in recent years. Continue reading


Arizona alums up in arms over Wildcats potential move Off-Campus

Arizona Daily Star writer Greg Hansen reports that a few Arizona Wildcats alumni are not happy with the potential move by the baseball team to Hi-Corbett Field which we detailed earlier this week.

Should Arizona State move Baseball Games Off-Campus?

Jeff Metcalfe of The Arizona Republic recently outlined the reasons that the Arizona State Sun Devils should move all their games off campus starting in 2014 as part of the new Mesa (AZ) facility being built by the Chicago Cubs. His argument is the school would only have to pay two million dollars to use the new place during construction when compared to spending $20-25 million to rebuild current Packard Stadium to bring it up to standards.  Continue reading


Arizona State looking to play Off-Campus?

According to Arizona Republic reporter Jeff Metcalfe, Arizona State is looking into at moving part of or their entire 2014 schedule to the new Mesa AZ facility being built for the Chicago Cubs which approached the school with the idea. The new facility will cost about 84 million dollars and the Cubs have discussed co-branding the stadium with Arizona State. The stadium will only be five miles from the school’s campus and is an excellent fit for the Sun Devils which plays at Packard Stadium which was built in 1974. Packard Stadium’s current facilities and other amenities are not up to the current standards around college baseball so this would be a major upgrade for the Sun Devils. Arizona Wildcats Looking to Move Games Off-Campus?

The Arizona Wildcats are looking to move some or their entire slate of games for the 2012 season to Hi-Corbett Field in Tuscon.

The Wildcats have played their home games on campus at Jerry Kindall Field at Frank Sancet Stadium since 1967 where they drew about 1k fans per game during the 2011 season.

Construction Begins On New SMC Baseball Stadium

MORAGA, Calif. — Visitors to campus these days will quickly notice a hustle and bustle of activity as construction is underway on the new Saint Mary’s Baseball Stadium.

Important pieces of the new Athletics & Recreation Corridor that was announced last spring, the baseball stadium and a multi-use field adjacent to Saint Mary’s Stadium are the first construction projects to get underway. Continue reading


Purdue Trustees approve plans for New Baseball Stadium

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Purdue Board of Trustees today approved a contract to build a baseball stadium and make major upgrades to the women’s soccer complex. The projects are part of the Mackey Complex master plan that was approved in May 2007.

The $21 million baseball stadium, to be financed with athletics department funds, could eventually seat up to 2,500 spectators in the first phase of improvements to the Northwest Athletics Complex that includes the adjacent soccer facility. The intercollegiate baseball stadium will replace the existing 1,100-seat Lambert Field, which has been the team’s home since 1965.  Continue reading


LBSU’s Blair Field set for Makeover

Long Beach State is currently looking to renovate Blair Field which has served as the Dirtbags home field since 1958. The stadium received a renovation in 1993 which included new seats, a new roof, new lights for 1.4 million dollars.

The new plans for the stadium is to build a practice infield down the left field line, new modern batting tunnels, and part of the right field wall will be shortened to accommodate a new bullpen. The final piece of the project will be new lights to solve shadows in the gaps and center field during night games. The current estimate on the costs of this project is between 8-12 million.
