UConn Announces Plans for New Stadium

STORRS, Conn. (January 31, 2012) – The University of Connecticut Division of Athletics has established “Stadium Enhancement/Construction” funds in the sports of soccer, baseball and softball. The purpose of the funds are to upgrade or build new facilities for those sports.  The projects are all still in the early planning stages and the full scope of these projects have yet to be determined.  The projects will be funded entirely through private donations Continue reading

San Diego announces Facility Improvements

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – At today’s celebration announcement, Ron and Alexis Fowler were recognized for their generous gift to Torero Athletics to help kick start the Drive for Torero Success Campaign for USD’s revised Master plan for Recreation, Intramurals, club sports and Intercollegiate Athletics. In front of special guests, friends and Torero Alumni, USD announced the first element of Phase I of the build out of the Drive for Torero Success, the renovation of the baseball facility. It will now be known as Fowler Park in honor of Ron and Alexis Fowler who have given a matching gift to Torero Athletics to start this process. Continue reading

Coastal Carolina announces Facility Renovations to Baseball and Softball Facilities

CONWAY – The Coastal Carolina University baseball and softball programs have received approval from the State of South Carolina including finalized architectural renderings for a $10.2 million renovation that will put both programs’ facilities among the nation’s upper echelon.

The close proximity of the baseball and softball stadiums, combined with the $1.2 million Practice/Hitting Facility that was completed last spring, will give Coastal Carolina perhaps the best overall baseball-softball combined facilities in the nation. Continue reading

Purdue to play at Lambert Field this Spring

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Due to delays in the construction of Alexander Field, all Purdue home baseball games will be scheduled at Lambert Field this spring.

Alexander Field is part of the “Northwest Site,” which is located near Cherry Lane and McCormick Road and also houses the soccer complex, tennis facility and cross country course. It will seat 1,500 with the possibility of expansion to 2,500. Continue reading

George Washington renovations to Barcroft Park underway

ARLINGTON, Va. – The first phase of the multi-million dollar renovation to Barcroft Park, the home field of the George Washington baseball team, is underway. Initial demolition is complete and construction has commenced in preparation for the 2012 season.

The existing structure, including the dugouts, backstop, fencing and scoreboard, has been demolished and the initial stages of artificial turf installation has begun. The venue is expected to be completed in Spring, 2012. Continue reading

Texas Longhorns adding new video board at UFCU Disch-Falk Field

The Texas Longhorns will add a new toy to their already world-class stadium in 2012. Currently being constructed in right field is a new video board that will add some new flair for Augie Garrido’s club.

The video board is going up opposite of the existing scoreboard, just right of the 405 marker in the power alley.  The structure will measure out at 25.2 feet high, and 60 feet wide, and will display both teams’ lineups with a video display in the middle.

No official word yet on the fate of the existing scoreboard, but seeing that the new board makes no mention of score keeping, it would be safe to assume Texas will keep the existing structure in its current role, while shifting the graphics and video playback to the new board. Continue reading

Virginia Tech’s English Field set for enhancement project

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Virginia Tech’s home to the baseball program – English Field – is in the midst of an almost $2 million enhancement project that started in July with the building of a new batter’s eye and will be completed sometime early next year before the Hokies open their 2012 home schedule. Purdue’s New Facility to be named Alexander Field

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University’s new baseball facility will be named Alexander Field in honor of the late John and Anna Margaret Ross Alexander.

The Alexanders were the parents of Dave Alexander, who is giving the lead gift for the project. David Alexander was Purdue baseball coach from 1978 to 1991 and then an athletics administrator through 1994. All three Alexanders graduated from Purdue, and Dave played on Purdue’s baseball team.
