Notre Dame Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick announced today that head baseball coach Dave Schrage will not be retained by the university. Schrage took over the position four years ago following in the footsteps of Paul Mainieri. He struggled during his time with the Irish compiling a 119-104-1 (.533) including 22-32 mark in 2010. According to a report in the Providence Journal, Bryant head baseball coach Jamie Pinzino has resigned after an alcohol related altercation on campus May 26. Pinzino is facing charges for simple assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Bryant assistant coach Andy Koocher was also charged him with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors. He pleaded no contest at his arraignment and his case was filed for one year.
UNLV has hired Tim Chambers to become the sixth head coach in the history of the Rebels baseball program. He has been the head coach the previous 11 years at the College of Southern Nevada where he has won seven conference championships, three regional titles, two district crowns, and the 2003 JUCO World Series Championship. This past season Chambers received national attention as he coached Bryce Harper who was the number 1 pick of the 2010 MLB Draft. He led the team to a 52-16 record and a number 2 national ranking. Ohio State is set to name Kent State head coach Scott Stricklin according to a post from Kendall Rogers. He is set to replace Bob Todd who is retiring after 23 seasons leading the Buckeyes.

We should see what happens about this situation in the coming days but it is very odd timing for this news to break.
The second coaching change in the Mountain West conference has come today with the announcement that UNLV head coach Buddy Gouldsmith will not have his contract renewed for next season. Goulsmith has been the Rebels head coach since the 2004 season as he has a career record of 200-211 entering into action on Tuesday night. According to the press release, UNLV will conduct a national search for a new coach. It should be interesting to see who gets this position in the coming months as the expectations in the Mountain West Conference has risen with the success of TCU. Long Beach, Calif. – Long Beach State head baseball coach Mike Weathers has announced his retirement from baseball effective at the end of the 2010 season.
“After 18 years at Long Beach State, nine as an assistant and nine as head coach, I feel it is time to step aside and let someone else lead the program,” Weathers said. “I’ve wanted to spend more time with my wife, Charlotte, my daughters and my grandson and this will allow me to do that. I’m anxious to start the next stage of my life and I am excited to continue to watch the Dirtbags compete for championships.”

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Maj. Mike Kazlausky has been named interim head baseball coach at the Air Force Academy for the 2011 season, according to an announcement today from Director of Athletics Dr. Hans Mueh. Kazlausky, who is currently an Air Officer Commanding (AOC) for cadet squadron 12 at the Academy, will assume his duties at the end of the current baseball season.
Kazlausky will replace Mike Hutcheon, who after seven years at the helm offered his resignation upon completion of the 2010 season. Kazlausky, otherwise known as "Coach Kaz" is a 1991 Academy graduate and has logged six years as an assistant coach at the Academy.
Demetris Mitchell resigned as Alabama A&M head coach on Monday as announced by the athletic department. On Tuesday evening, the bulldogs took on Auburn where they lost by a score of 11-1 and were led by former head coach Jay Martin who left the program after the 2009 season. Martin will also serve as the coach on Wednesday evening when they take on Auburn in the second game of a two game set.

For the past two years Coryell worked as an associate scout with the Cincinnati Reds while also serving as the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Grand Rapids Community College. He was on the coaching staff at Kellogg Community College in 2008 when the Bears advanced to the Junior College World Series.
