Mik Aoki accepts Notre Dame job

Boston College head coach Mik Aoki has accepted the Notre Dame head coaching job tonight as I previously reported on June 29th. (FULL ARTICLE) Aoki spent the last four seasons in charge of the Eagles bringing them to two ACC tournaments the last two seasons and the NCAA Tournament in 2009.His career record with the Eagles was 114-104-1 while having a career head coaching record of 201-248-1 after spending five seasons in charge of the Columbia program before becoming the pitching coach at Boston College under former BC and current VT head coach Peter Hughes.

Centenary’s Ed McCann Resigns; Mike Diaz named Replacement

EdMCannCentenary SHREVEPORT-After 12 successful seasons as the head baseball coach, Centenary’s Ed McCann announced his resignation as the leader of the Gents baseball program on Friday afternoon.

“Centenary took a chance on me 12 years ago when no one else would give me the time of day. I have had the opportunity to work under four awesome athletic directors: Russ Sharp, Dr. David Bedard, Taylor Moore, and Dr. Tom Tallach. For that, I will always be thankful and grateful,” said McCann.

McCann departs Centenary after completing his 12th year as the head coach of the Gents.

UALR Announces Coaching Changes

UALRNewCoaches LITTLE ROCK – UALR head baseball coach Scott Norwood announced changes to his staff on Friday, adding University of Pittsburgh assistant coach Brandon Rowan while promoting Jeremy Haworth to a full-time assistant position.

Rowan comes to UALR after two seasons as Pittsburgh’s pitching coach, where he helped the Panthers to a 38-18 record and a No. 3 seed in the Big East Tournament in 2010. He will serve as UALR’s pitching coach and recruiting coordinator, inheriting a staff which will look to replace 2010 MLB Draft pick and All-Sun Belt performer Adam Champion.

Winthrop’s Joe Hudak relieved as Head Coach

JoeHudakWinthrop ROCK HILL, SCWinthrop Athletic Director Tom Hickman announced on Thursday that head baseball coach Joe Hudak has been relieved of his coaching duties and will be reassigned within the athletic department under the direction of the athletic director.

“We felt we needed a change in leadership,” said Hickman. “We appreciate the years of service that Coach Hudak gave to this program and the efforts he made to build Winthrop baseball into a respected and competitive program on a regional and national level. However, the program has not progressed in recent years as we would have liked, particularly when you take into account the outstanding facilities and support services that we have to offer prospective student-athletes.”

Lewis-Clark State Coach Ed Cheff to retire

Ed Cheff Ed Cheff, who led the Lewis-Clark State College baseball team to an unprecedented 16 NAIA World Series title and is the NAIA’s all-time leader in victories at one school, announced Wednesday that he will be stepping down after 34 years at the Warrior helm.

The veteran coach will be replaced by Gary Picone, who will also keep his duties as athletic director, incoming LCSC interim president J. Anthony (Tony) Fernandez announced. Picone, however, will relinquish his duties as Tournament Director for the Avista NAIA World Series to LCSC assistant athletic director Brooke Cushman.

The changes officially begin on Sept. 1.

Cheff has been the face of the LCSC baseball program since his arrival in 1977. He posted a 1,705-430-2 record with LCSC for a .799 winning percentage. His win total ranks second only to Wichita State’s Gene Stephenson’s 1,724 wins with the same program in all of college baseball. His win total also is fourth all-time among all college baseball coaches.

Mike Stafford named Pitching Coach at Ohio State

StaffordBealsOhioState COLUMBUS, Ohio – The coaching team of Greg Beals and Mike Stafford will continue. It’s not as if this comes as too great of a surprise for those in the collegiate baseball circles, and particularly to those who have watched the two succeed along the recruiting trails or between the base paths the past seven seasons instructing, mentoring and coaxing the most out of their student-athletes at Ball State University. But today it became official when Beals, the Springfield, Ohio-native and first-year coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, named Stafford, the former Buckeye reliever, as his pitching coach.

Matt White named Pitching Coach at Michigan

Matt White ANN ARBOR, Mich. — University of Michigan head baseball coach Rich Maloney has announced the addition of Matt White to his coaching staff. White, who will handle the pitching coach duties, comes to Michigan after three years as a volunteer coach at Georgia Tech. White replaces Bob Keller as Michigan’s pitching coach.

"I think we have one of the best up and coming coaches in college baseball," Maloney said. "He comes highly recommended and has a wealth of experience in all levels of the game. He has experienced baseball at the highest level in the pros, was a volunteer coach at Georgia Tech plus he coached the U16 and U18 national teams for USA baseball and he is very passionate about teaching pitching."

According to multiple sources, Mik Aoki will be named the next head coach at Notre Dame after spending the last four seasons as the head coach of the Boston College Eagles. He led the Eagles to the NCAA Tourney in 2009 but that was the only NCAA appearance. He finished the 2010 season with a 30-28 record while going 14-16 in ACC play. His career record with the Eagles was 114-104-1 while having a career head coaching record of 201-248-1 after spending five seasons in charge of the Columbia program before becoming the pitching coach at Boston College under former BC and current VT head coach Peter Hughes.

Steve Kittrell to retire after 2011 Season

SteveKitrellSouthAlabama MOBILE, Ala. – He’s led the University of South Alabama baseball program to more than 1,000 victories, numerous NCAA Tournament appearances and Sun Belt Conference championships, and had more than 100 of his student-athletes go on to sign professional contracts.  His contributions to the program, as both a player and a coach, led to his induction in the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame.

With more than 30 years of service to Jaguar baseball, head coach Steve Kittrell’s amazing run at USA will be coming to a close.  Kittrell announced his retirement, effective at the end of the 2011 season, Wednesday at a press conference at the Mitchell Center.
