Omaha, Neb. – UCLA hung on to a 2-1 victory over the North Carolina State Wolfpack aided by an unstoppable pitching performance from Nick Vander Tuig and David Berg on Tuesday night at TD Ameritrade Park.
With the win, UCLA improves to 46-17 on the season and 2-0 at the College World Series while NC State falls to 50-15 and into the losers’ bracket. NC State will face elimination against the University of North Carolina on Thursday at 7 p.m. CT, and UCLA will face the winner of that game on Friday at 7 p.m. CT. OMAHA, Neb. – North Carolina State got out to an early lead Sunday and rode a terrific performance by pitcher Carlos Rodon to defeat No. 1 North Carolina in the opening game of bracket two at the 2013 Men’s College World Series at TD Ameritrade Park.

North Carolina is the No.1 seeded team in the tournament and has shown the guts in the NCAA Tourney to pull out a victory. game after game why they are the best. The Tar Heels knocked off the Gamecocks with a 5-4 win to advance to the schools tenth appearance in the CWS. With this being their tenth visit to Omaha, the school is still in search of its first title and the ACC’s first since 1955 when Wake Forest brought home the title. Ace pitcher Kent Emanuel has an ERA of 2.93 with 89 strikeouts and was drafted in the third round 74th overall by the Astros, all of these making him a key player to watch throughout the College World Series. Other key notables include Cody Stubbs averaging a team high .366 with eight homeruns and 76 RBIs, and Skye Bolt averaging .330 with 50 RBIs and six homeruns. Last Colin Moran will be the biggest factor of the hitters with his.343 batting average, team high 88 RBIs, and also team high 13 homeruns. Moran was drafted in the first round 6th overall by the Miami Marlins. UNC is set to take on rival N.C State in game one on the first day of the CWS with the winner advancing to play the winner of game two (UCLA vs. LSU). RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State advanced to its first College World Series since 1968 by winning the longest super regional game in history, 5-4, in 17 innings over Rice on Sunday at Doak Field at Dail Park.
The Wolfpack (49-14) tied the school record for most wins in a season, but they had to do it with a riveting three-run ninth to force extra innings. Rice (44-20) took a 1-0 lead with a solo homer in the bottom of the first, and extended it to 2-0 with another in the sixth. RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State rallied for a dramatic 4-3 comeback win over Rice in game one of the Raleigh Super Regional on Saturday at Doak Field at Dail Park.
The Wolfpack (48-14) moved one win closer to Omaha, and pulled to within one victory of tying the program record for wins in a season by jumping ahead 2-0 in the bottom of the first. Rice scored once in the fourth and again in the fifth to even the score, before pulling ahead 3-2 in the top of the ninth. The Rice Owls, winners of both the regular season Conference USA championship and the Conference USA tournament championship, will be participating in their tenth Super Regional this weekend as they travel to North Carolina State.

RALEIGH, N.C. – The William and Mary baseball team opened its 2013 NCAA Tournament in the Raleigh Regional with a milestone victory over No. 23-ranked Ole Miss, 4-2, on Friday afternoon at Doak Field. W&M’s victory over the Rebels marked the Tribe’s first ever NCAA Tournament win as it also set a new single-season school record with 38 wins. A four-run fifth inning propelled the Tribe past the Rebels as W&M plated all four of its runs with two outs. For the year, the Green and Gold improves to 38-22, while Ole Miss falls to 37-23.
