On Friday night in Coral Gables the College Baseball Daily Preseason Comeback Player of the Year pick, David Thompson walked it off in heroic fashion when he hit a leadoff home run over the left-field wall in the 10th inning that ended a thrilling ACC home opener and gave Miami the win, 3-2. 2015 ACC Atlantic Division Preview

ACCLogoWith the start of college baseball season less than a month away, here at College Baseball Daily we’re previewing each team in the Atlantic Coast Conference. We will start with the Atlantic Division and then move to the Coastal Division.

​The University of Virginia, preseason ranked nationally at number 2, has been selected as the 2015 Atlantic Coast Conference baseball preseason favorite by the leagues 14 head coaches. Virginia, for the second year in a row has been slated as the team to beat in the ACC with 10 first-place votes followed by Florida State with 4 first-place votes. In a conference that hosts 5 of the top 25 teams in the nation one thing is for sure and that is competitive baseball in the Atlantic Coast Conference. NC State’s Trea Turner wins 2014 Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award

LUBBOCK, Texas — The National College Baseball Hall of Fame is proud to announce Trea Turner as the 2014 Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year.

Here is your National Recap for April 11th.

Rodon overused; Duke defeats NC State 2-0 behind Van Orden

The top story of the night was the absolute criminal overuse of Carlos Rodon by the NC State coaching staff in the Wolfpack’s 2-0 defeat to Duke. Rodon was working on short rest and threw 134 pitches in 7.2 innings. Rodon in the game broke the NC State school record with 391 in the win. Things are not getting better for the Wolfpack as they are now 19-14 overall while being 5-11 in ACC play. Continue reading National Recap for April 11th

Saturday Roundup (3/1)

Maryland senior Jake Stinnett was a cut above the rest on Saturday as the senior tossed the first no-hitter for the Terrapins since 2008 in a 4-0 win over UMass. Stinnett faced just two over the minimum while striking out nine batters. Coming off a week in which he was named the ACC Pitcher of the Week, he retired the final 11 batters of the game in dominating fashion. Maryland also won game two of the doubleheader 10-1. 2014 CBD Top 100 Countdown: 1. Carlos Rodon (NC State)

rodonCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2014 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be adding players day-by-day until we get to number one!

Number 1 on our Top 100 Countdown is North Carolina State’s Carlos Rodon. The 6-3 left-handed pitcher from Holly Springs, North Carolina was selected in the 16th round by the Milwaukee Brewers in the 2011 MLB Draft.

As a freshman in 2012, Rodon had the strongest breakout season in the country for the NC State Wolfpack. In his 17 appearances, Rodon went 9-0 with an ERA of just 1.57. In his 114.2 innings pitched, Rodon struck out 135 batters while walking 41 and holding opponents to a batting average of just .176. Continue reading 2014 CBD Top 100 Countdown: 1. 2014 CBD Top 100 Countdown: 3. Trea Turner (NC State)

turnerCollege Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2014 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be adding players day-by-day until we get to number one!

Number 3 on our countdown is NC State junior Trea Turner. The 6’1 infielder from Lake Worth, Florida was selected in the 20th round by the Pirates in the 2011 MLB Draft.

As a freshman, Turner played and started in all 63 games for NC State. He posted a batting average of .336 with 13 doubles and 43 RBI. He also had an on base percentage of .432 and 72 runs, which ranked sixth in the nation. In addition, Turner also led the nation in stolen bases as he went 57-for-61. 2014 Season Preview: ACC

Boston College Eagles

2013 record: 12 – 40 (4 – 25 ACC, 6th place)

Finish: No postseason

To put it bluntly, the Boston College Eagles were out of their element in ACC conference play in 2013. The Eagles lost their first 20 conference games before surprisingly winning a home series with Miami to get off the schnide.
