USA Baseball Names Twenty-One Golden Spikes Award Semifinalists

DURHAM, N.C. — USA Baseball announced the semifinalists for the 2015 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award on Friday. Twenty-one athletes from around the country were named semifinalists for the 38th Golden Spikes Award, sponsored by Major League Baseball and presented in partnership with the Rod Dedeaux Foundation to the top amateur baseball player in the U.S.

NCBWA Players of the Week

NCBWA LogoDALLAS (NCBWA) – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association released its National Player of the Week awards for the period ending Feb. 15. Texas Tech junior first baseman Eric Gutierrez was named National Hitter of the Week, while Navy junior left-handed pitcher Luke Gillingham was named National Pitcher of the Week. Navy releases 2015 Schedule

PaulKostacopoulosNavy.jpgANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy baseball head coach Paul Kostacopoulos announced his team’s 2015 schedule on Wednesday. A season-opening series at North Carolina A&T and the annual Freedom Classic in Kinston, N.C., highlight Navy’s non-conference schedule. The Mids will play a total of 25 games in Annapolis, including a pair of weekend homestands against Patriot League opponents.

Navy begins its season on Feb. 13 with a three-game set in Greensboro, N.C. versus North Carolina A&T. This is will mark the second series between the two schools as the Mids and Aggies kicked off the 2012 season with a three-game set. Navy came out on top in two of those three contests. 2014 Patriot League Preseason Coaches Poll

PatriotLeagueLogo_thumb.jpgCENTER VALLEY, Pa. – For the second straight season, there is a tie at the top of the Patriot League Baseball preseason poll as both Army and Navy shared the top spot in the rankings announced on Thursday.

The Black Knights and Mids were even with 42 points apiece, with Army garnering five first-place votes to three for the Navy. Holy Cross was not far behind with 35 points and a pair of first-place votes, while Bucknell took home 31 points and the remaining two first-place votes followed by Lehigh (17) and Lafayette (13). 2014 CBD Season Preview: Patriot League

Army, Navy, and Air Force Baseball Forced to Shutdown

ArmyBaseball The Army, Navy, and Air Force baseball programs have been forced to stop fall competitions with the federal government shutting down all intercollegiate activities at the service academies. This weekend’s football games between Navy and Air Force and the Army at Boston College are both unlikely to happen unless the government shutdown is resolved in the very near future.

The Black Knights earned five first-place votes and finished tied with Holy Cross atop the preseason listing, which was compiled by a vote of the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.

Navy releases 2013 Schedule

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy baseball head coach Paul Kostacopoulos has announced the 2013 schedule. A season-opening series at Norfolk State, a return to the annual Freedom Classic in Kinston, N.C., and a trip to Florida for the RussMatt Invitational highlight Navy’s non-conference schedule. 2012 Patriot League Preseason Coaching Poll Released

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Patriot League released the preseason baseball poll on Wednesday with both Navy and Bucknell tied at the top. Both teams were picked first with 39 points, while Navy received more first-place votes (five) than Bucknell (four). Army was picked just behind Navy and Bucknell with 38 points and one first-place vote, while Holy Cross took the fourth spot with 29 points and two first-place votes. Lafayette and Lehigh, respectively, rounded out the preseason poll, which is voted on by the Patriot League’s head coaches and sports information contacts.
