2013 Patriot League Preseason Coaches Poll

PatriotLeagueLogo.jpgCENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Army baseball team was picked first in the Patriot League preseason poll which was released on Wednesday. The Black Knights earned five first-place votes and finished tied with Holy Cross atop the preseason listing, which was compiled by a vote of the league’s head coaches and sports information directors.

Army and Holy Cross, whom Army defeated in three games to claim the 2012 Patriot League tournament championship, both accumulated 45 points to tie for first in the preseason poll. The Crusaders collected six first-place votes. Read the rest of this entry »

Navy releases 2013 Schedule

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Navy baseball head coach Paul Kostacopoulos has announced the 2013 schedule. A season-opening series at Norfolk State, a return to the annual Freedom Classic in Kinston, N.C., and a trip to Florida for the RussMatt Invitational highlight Navy’s non-conference schedule. The Mids will play a total of 20 games in Annapolis, including two weekend homestands against Patriot League opponents. Read the rest of this entry »

2012 Patriot League Preseason Coaching Poll Released

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Patriot League released the preseason baseball poll on Wednesday with both Navy and Bucknell tied at the top. Both teams were picked first with 39 points, while Navy received more first-place votes (five) than Bucknell (four). Army was picked just behind Navy and Bucknell with 38 points and one first-place vote, while Holy Cross took the fourth spot with 29 points and two first-place votes. Lafayette and Lehigh, respectively, rounded out the preseason poll, which is voted on by the Patriot League’s head coaches and sports information contacts. Read the rest of this entry »

NCBWA Names 2012 Preseason Stopper of the Year Watch List

(NCBWA) — Forty-five players have been named to the initial watch list for the eighth annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Stopper of the Year Award, given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I baseball, as announced by the association Wednesday. Big East looking to Expand

The Big East conference is looking to ”aggressively pursue” expansion according to commissioner John Marinatto after a five hour meeting with league presidents on Sunday. It was the first time that the league presidents have met since Pitt and Syracuse announced on September 16th that they will leave the Big East to the ACC.  Read the rest of this entry »

2011 NCAA Charlottesville Regional: Day 2 Recap

Charlottesville, VA.-  The Navy Midshipmen were the first to depart falling in the first elimination game of the Regional on Saturday. East Carolina kept in season alive with the 6-1 win over Navy and will face St. John’s in the second elimination game Sunday at 1:00 PM. The Cavaliers improve to 2-0 in the Regional based on back-to-back solid pitching performances by Will Roberts and Danny Hultzen. 2011 NCAA Charlottesville Regional: Day 1 Recap

Charlottesville, VA – Will Roberts (11-1) went nine shutout innings, scattering fours hits and setting down a career high 14 via the strikeout as the Virginia Cavaliers (50-9) took the opening game of the Charlottesville Regional. Designated hitter Danny Hultzen provide the offensive firepower going 3-for-4 including a triple and two singles and knocking in three Virginia base runners as the Hoos blanked Navy (33-24-1) 6-0. 2011 NCAA Regional Preview: Charlottesville

Several interesting story lines mark the 2011 Charlottesville Regional. St John’s is returning to Charlottesville where they almost pulled the upset last season forcing the 5th overall national seed Virginia to an elimination game. The ECU Pirates return to Charlottesville where they played the Cavaliers tough in a three game series the second week of the season, losing the three game set 2-1, including a one-run loss on Saturday. Navy will be making its first appearance in Charlottesville since a 17-1 loss back in March of 2009. This will be Virginia’s fifth time hosting an NCAA Regional since 2004. 2011 Patriot League Semifinals Preview

Center Valley, Pa. — After the most competitive regular-season race in League history, four teams will open up postseason play with semifinal series of the Patriot League Baseball Tournament this weekend.

The matchups pit No. 4 Bucknell at No. 1 Navy and No. 3 Lafayette at No. 2 Army, with each three-game series featuring a doubleheader on Saturday and decisive final game, if necessary, on Sunday afternoon.
