2009 NCBWA Division III Players of the Year

KENOSHA, Wis. – The NCAA Division III members of the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association have selected Pomona-Pitzer College first baseman Drew Hedman (Sr., Redding, Calif./Shasta) as the NCBWA NCAA Division III Hitter of the Year, while Trinity College’s Jeremiah Bayer (Sr., Greenfield, Mass./Deerfield Academy) was named NCBWA NCAA Division III Pitcher of the Year. Hedman was a unanimous pick of the eight-member sports information director’s panel, while Bayer received seven-of-eight first-place votes. Continue reading

Buster Posey Claims 2008 Brooks Wallace Award

Lubbock, Texas – The Brooks Wallace National Player of the Year Award Selection Committee has named Florida State All-American catcher Buster Posey of Leesburg, Ga., as the fifth recipient of the award, which was presented in a national telecast (FCS) on Wednesday evening at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.

Posey conquered an elite field of 15 other semi-finalists and finalists including consensus All-American shortstop Gordon Beckham of Georgia and pitcher Brian Matusz of San Diego. He will be honored Thursday afternoon in the Fourth on Broadway parade festivities along with the College Baseball Hall of Fame Class of 2008. Continue reading

Florida State’s Buster Posey Receives 2008 Dick Howser Trophy

OMAHA, Neb.—Buster Posey, Florida State’s slugging catcher and Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year as well as 2008 CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic Baseball Player of the Year, is the 22nd annual recipient of the Dick Howser Trophy, presented by Whitney Bank.

The St. Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) selected Posey in a vote of over 300 members of the NCBWA and Dick Howser Trophy committee from an initial field of more than 700 nominees in 2008. Continue reading

Brooks Wallace National Player of the Year Semi-Finalists

Lubbock, Texas – As eight teams load up and head to Omaha to continue the quest for the College Baseball National Championship, eight players are named as semi-finalists for the Brooks Wallace National Player of Year Award.
