USA Baseball releases updated 2010 Golden Spikes Award Watch List

GoldenSpikesAward DURHAM, N.C. — USA Baseball released an updated 60-man Golden Spikes Award Watch List Tuesday, bringing the organization one step closer to identifying the top amateur baseball player in the country.  Sponsored by Major League Baseball, the 33rd annual Golden Spikes Award will be presented in 2010 on Tuesday, July 13, at the 2010 Major League Baseball All-Star FanFest in Anaheim, Calif.

Army’s Clint Moore’s Sullivan Award Experience

ClintMooreArmy NEW YORK, N.Y. – An autograph and photograph session, some sightseeing, putting the final touches on a Sociology paper, luncheon with the nominees, interviews with media and center stage were all a part of Army baseball player Clint Moore’s Wednesday.

One of just six finalist for the prestigious AAU Sullivan Award, Moore was given the royal treatment, capping his evening at the New York Athletic Club, overlooking Central Park, with the Sullivan Award Reception and Presentation.

Clint Moore named finalist for AAU Sullivan Award

ArmyClintMoore WEST POINT, N.Y. - Clint Moore is entering territories reserved for the nation’s most decorated amateur athletes.

Army’s junior shortstop has been named one of six finalists for the AAU Sullivan Award, which honors the nation’s outstanding amateur athlete. Presented annually since 1930, the Sullivan Award is also based on leadership, character, sportsmanship and the ideals of amateurism, it was announced on Monday evening.

The only college baseball player to be nominated for the award, Moore is joined on the list of finalists by Angela Bizzari, a cross country star at the University of Illinois, Zak Boggs, a standout soccer player from the University of South Florida, Olympic luge athlete Erin Hamlin of Remsen, N.Y., volleyball star Megan Hodge of three-time reigning national champion Penn State University and Amy Pamiero-Winters, a record-setting paralympic ultra-marathon specialist from Hicksville, N.Y.

Army’s Clint Moore named Finalist for AAU Sullivan Award

ClintMooreArmy West Point, N.Y. – Army junior shortstop Clint Moore was named one of 14 nominees for the AAU Sullivan Award, which honors the nation’s outstanding amateur athlete. Presented annually since 1930, the Sullivan Award is also based on leadership, character, sportsmanship and the ideals of amateurism.

The only college baseball player to be named a semifinalist, Moore is joined on the list by Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, who set the Alabama single season rushing record with 1,658 yards in leading the Crimson Tide to the national championship this past season, and Tina Charles, who was nominated for her contributions to the Connecticut women’s basketball teams’s perfect season and national title in 2009, among others.

2010 Brooks Wallace Award Watch List

LUBBOCK, Texas — After a month of exciting college baseball action across the country, the College Baseball Foundation has released the initial Brooks Wallace Award Watch List.

The Wallace Award, sponsored by Mizuno, recognizes the nation’s top shortstop and will be presented on July 2 in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the College Baseball Awards Show.

NCBWA National Players of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va - The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)­ released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending March 7, today. Georgia State junior outfielder Mark Micowski was named National Hitter of the Week, while Houston sophomore right-handed pitcher Michael Goodnight was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season.

2010 Johnny Bench Award Watch List

JohnnyBenchAwardLogo WICHITA, KANSAS – The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission announced the official watch list for the 2010 Coleman Company-Johnny Bench Award delivered by Papa John’s Pizza. Fifty-three catchers were nominated for the award by their coaches. Because the award is given annually to the top division one collegiate catcher, the list will be updated to include other candidates until May 5, 2010.

USABaseballLogo (DURHAM, N.C.) – USA Baseball announced its preseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List Thursday, marking the organization’s first step toward identifying the top amateur baseball player in the country.  Sponsored by Major League Baseball, the Golden Spikes Award will be presented in 2010 for the 33rd time.

The watch list features 50 of the nation’s top amateur talents, and it will be a “rolling” list to ensure that athletes can play themselves into consideration for the Golden Spikes Award, to be presented live on Tuesday, July 13, at the 2010 Major League Baseball All-Star FanFest in Anaheim, Calif.

Andy Baylock selected for ABCA/Wilson Lefty Gomez Award

AndyBaylockUConn MT. PLEASANT, Mich. – Former University of Connecticut baseball head coach Andy Baylock has been selected as the 2011 recipient of the ABCA/Wilson Lefty Gomez Award as announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

The ABCA/Wilson Lefty Gomez award is the highest honor given out by the ABCA. Baylock will be presented the award on January 7, 2011, during the ABCA Convention in Nashville, Tenn.
