2011 John Olerud Award Watch List

The College Baseball Hall of Fame announced today the names of 25 players from across the country featured on the watch list for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award.

The Olerud Award, which recognizes a player who makes an impact both on the mound and at the plate, will be presented in Lubbock, Texas, on July 3 as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame’s Night of Champions. Continue reading

2011 Johnny Bench Award Watch List

March 10, 2011- The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission released the Watch List for the 2011 Coleman Company-Johnny Bench Award delivered by Papa John’s Pizza.

Forty-two catchers were nominated for the award by their coaches. Because the award is given annually to the top division one catcher, the list will be updated to include other candidates until May 6, 2011.  Continue reading


2011 Golden Spikes Award Watch List

USA Baseball announced its preseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List on Thursday, marking the organization’s first step toward identifying the top amateur baseball player in the country. Sponsored by Major League Baseball, the Golden Spikes Award will be presented in 2011 for the 34th time.

The Watch List features 50 of the nation’s top amateur players, and it will be a “rolling” list to ensure that athletes can play themselves into consideration for the Golden Spikes Award, to be presented live on Monday, July 11, at the 2011 Major League Baseball All-Star FanFest in Phoenix. Dick Howser Trophy Campus Salute to Rice’s Anthony Rendon Set for this Saturday


AnthonyRendonRiceDALLAS, Texas – The Dick Howser Trophy Committee will present its on-campus salute to 2010 Dick Howser Trophy winner Anthony Rendon of Rice this Saturday, October 16 at the Owls’ football game against Houston at Rice Stadium.

In addition to being honored as the winner at the conclusion of the college baseball season, each Howser Trophy winner is saluted once again on his campus the following academic year so that fans and administrators at his school can be a part of recognizing his achievements.  Rendon will be re-presented the Howser Trophy by Jana Howser, daughter of Dick Howser and Executive Vice-President of the College Baseball Foundation, and Bo Carter, Executive Director of the NCBWA, during the first quarter of the Rice-UH football game which airs regionally on CSS.

Rice’s Anthony Rendon wins 2010 Dick Howser Award


DickHowserAwardPhoto LUBBOCK, Texas – Rice sophomore third baseman Anthony Rendon is the recipient of the 24th annual Dick Howser Trophy as college baseball’s player of the year. The presentation was made Friday evening in Lubbock, Texas as part of the festivities to recognize and induct the College Baseball Hall of Fame and the awarding of several other national honors for 2010.

Rendon is just the second player in Conference USA history to be named Player of the Year in back-to-back seasons. He picked up that honor again this year while leading the Owls to the regular season league championship and the school’s 16th consecutive NCAA Regional appearance. The two-time first team All-CUSA selection was named to the C-USA Championship All-Tournament team and was named the Most Outstanding Player at the NCAA Austin Regional. The Houston native was also named the Male Athlete of the Year for all sports in Conference USA.
