2012 Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Watch List

LUBBOCK, Texas — As conference play comes to an end and teams prepare for conference tournaments, the College Baseball Hall of Fame released the top 25 players for the Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award on Tuesday.

South Carolina’s Chad Holbrook named the 2011 ABCA/Baseball America Assistant Coach of the Year

Columbia, S.C. – South Carolina associate head baseball coach Chad Holbrook has been named the 2011 American Baseball Coaches Association/Baseball America Assistant Coach of the Year. Now in his fourth season as associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for the baseball program, Holbrook serves as hitting instructor, oversees the Gamecock offense, including base running and the short game, and is the third base coach. CBI Unveils Tom Walter College Baseball Inspiration Award

RICHMOND, Va. – Before the first pitch of the 2011 college baseball season, Wake Forest coach Tom Walter registered a save.

After an early-season practice, Walter surprised his team when he told his Demon Deacons that he was going to donate a kidney to freshman outfielder Kevin Jordan. A week later, Walter underwent surgery to remove his kidney, which was transplanted to Jordan. Read the rest of this entry »

2011 NCBWA Division I Freshman All-American Team

LYNCHBURG, VA. (NCBWA) – A total of 34 standout freshmen college baseball players from every part of the country are featured on the 2011 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Freshman All-American Team, the organization announced today.

2011 Johnny Bench Award Watch List

March 10, 2011- The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission released the Watch List for the 2011 Coleman Company-Johnny Bench Award delivered by Papa John’s Pizza.

2011 Golden Spikes Award Watch List

USA Baseball announced its preseason Golden Spikes Award Watch List on Thursday, marking the organization’s first step toward identifying the top amateur baseball player in the country. Sponsored by Major League Baseball, the Golden Spikes Award will be presented in 2011 for the 34th time.

The Watch List features 50 of the nation’s top amateur players, and it will be a “rolling” list to ensure that athletes can play themselves into consideration for the Golden Spikes Award, to be presented live on Monday, July 11, at the 2011 Major League Baseball All-Star FanFest in Phoenix.
