The UNLV Rebels played Game 3 of their Scarlet-Gray World Series on Tuesday. The Gray team won their first game of the series on Tuesday by a score of 4-1. The Gray team got excellent pitching from a trio of pitchers. Steven Rinaudo started and went 4.1 innings while giving up only two hits. Adam Moser followed him to the mound and pitched 1.2 scoreless innings before Thomas Whittsett closed out the game by allowing one run in the seventh inning. The Gray team was led on offense by Michael Brenly (son of Bob Brenly) who went 2-4 including a triple. Braden Walker went 1-2 for the Scarlet team. The University of Nevada-Las Vegas has announced their 2008 baseball schedule. The Rebels will open the season on February 22nd when Central Michigan begins a three game set in Vegas. The Rebels will also play two home games against Washington State and a three game series against Maine before heading on the road to play Arizona. They will also host WCC power San Francisco and head to Cal-State Fullerton before heading into conference play. The full schedule is available here.
According to a press release from Fresno State, the field for the 2008 Pepsi Johnny Quik Tournament has been set. The Fresno State Bulldogs will act as host of the tournament with Utah, New Mexico State, Portland, Gonzaga, and Indiana all taking part in the week long tournament from March 10th-15th. The TCU Horned Frogs have released their 2008 schedule recently. The Horned Frogs will open up the season on February 22nd when they host Cal-State Fullerton for the first game of a three game set. This game marks the beginning of the Dave Serrano era at Fullerton. The next weekend they will head up to Minneapolis to take part in the MetroDome tournament with Minnesota, Pepperdine, and Tulane. If you are in the Minnesota area, you need to make it to that tournament to see top of the line College Baseball as each school is expected to finish near the top of their conference. TCU then heads home for two non-conference weekday games before hosting Ole Miss for a three game set. TCU finishes their non-conference weekend schedule with a visit to Wichita State from March 14th-16th. TCU then heads into conference match-ups on the weekends and get the key match-up against Utah in Lupton Stadium on May 2nd-4th. TCU will also host the Mountain West Conference tournament on May 20th-25th. The full schedule is available in PDF format here. The BYU baseball program has released their 2008 schedule whihc is highlighted with visits from Oregon State and Kansas State. They will take part in two tournaments this year with the Banana Belt Tournament in Idaho on Feb. 28th-March 1st and the Sacramento State Tournament where they will battle UC-Davis, San Jose State, and Sacramento State from March 6th-8th. They will also play a full Mountain West schedule including a visit from conference power TCU. The full schedule is available here.
The Pacific University Tigers coaching staff will be making an appearance on the Discovery channel show Mythbusters which is set to air on Wednesday August 8th at 9:00 pm (PST). Tiger Head Coach Ed Sprague and Undergraduate assistant coach John Devaney were invited to be involved in the shooting at Klein Family Field. The full release is available here
The Miami (FL) Media Relations Department has released a feature on Kyle Bellamy who played this summer in the NYCBL with the Geneva Red Wings. The Associated Press wrote a recent article about Tony Gwynn, the current Head Coach of San Diego State. He discusses the upcoming Hall of Fame voting in which he is probably going to be inducted to this year.
