PROVO, Utah – The TCU Horned Frogs erased an early 3-0 deficit with a six-run second inning and cruised to the 13-4 victory over BYU at Larry H. Miller Field Friday night. The victory ensures the Frogs the series win as they continue their hot play in the month of April. It was another offensive explosion for TCU as they scored 13 times on 15 hits. Clint Arnold drove in a game-high four runs on three hits. Matt Vern also homered for the Frogs. Continue reading

TCU hammers BYU 16-5

PROVO, Utah – Five BYU errors and an offensive onslaught by the TCU Horned Frogs led them to a series-opening 16-5 victory Thursday night at Miller Field. The Frogs picked up 14 hits in the contest led by another good outing by Chris Ellington, who tied a school record with three doubles. The junior drove in four runs as did Ben Carruthers. In total, the Horned Frogs scored nine unearned runs in the game. Continue reading

FORT WORTH, Texas – For the second straight contest, the TCU Horned Frogs found themselves trailing heading into the ninth inning only to rally to tie the game. This time the Frogs needed three runs to tie the game at four, but Oklahoma broke the tie in the 12th inning to take a 5-4 victory Tuesday night at Lupton Stadium. The loss snaps the Horned Frogs’ nine-game winning streak and is just their first loss in the month of April. Continue reading

NCBWA names Pro-Line Athletic Players of the Week for April 13th

DALLAS – The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)­ released the Pro-Line Athletic National Player of the Week awards for the period ending April 13, today. Missouri senior outfielder Jacob Priday was named National Hitter of the Week, while San Diego State’s sophomore right-handed pitcher Stephen Strasburg was named National Pitcher of the Week. The NCBWA Board reviews candidates from each Division I Conference each week and names winners each Tuesday throughout the season. Continue reading

Aztecs Complete Comeback With 3-2 Win Over New Mexico In 11 Innings

SAN DIEGO –
Pat Colwell’s two-out single in the bottom of the 11th inning drove home the winning run as San Diego State defeated New Mexico, 3-2, Sunday afternoon at Tony Gwynn Stadium. Colwell’s heroics made a winner of junior right-hander James McLaughlin (3-0), who had just come on in the top of the inning in relief of senior starter Shane Kaufman, who had pitched brilliantly over the first 10 frames. The hit was the fifth of the day for Colwell whose safeties included a double and four singles plus a sac bunt, run scored and the all-important RBI to end the contest.

TCU rallies for three in the ninth, tops Air Force, 3-2

FORT WORTH, Texas - Trailing by two runs in the bottom of the ninth, the TCU Horned Frogs put together a furious rally, scoring three times to complete the sweep of Air Force. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Bryan Holaday singled through the right side bringing in the tying runs. Brett Medlin scored the winning run on an errant throw by the right fielder. The win gives the Frogs five straight victories.

Clint Arnold worked a lead-off walk in the ninth inning to spark the Frog rally. Chris Ellington doubled to left field to put runners on second and third. A four-pitch walk to Steve Ellington loaded the bases, ending relief pitcher Mike Ruvolo’s afternoon.

Air Force Dismantles Doane College 37-13

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – With a score that better resembled a football games’, the Air Force baseball team crushed Doane College, 37-13, Wednesday afternoon at Falcon Field. Matt Alexander hit for the cycle and drove in 11 runs and Addison Gentry tied the school record with seven runs scored for the Falcons, who improved to 10-16. The 37 runs is a Mountain West Conference record and is the second-most in school history. Continue reading
