As we have been reporting, the Air Force Baseball program is on the verge of being cut by the Air Force Academy. An Air Force freshman has posted a “Call to Action to save Baseball at USAFA.” It reads the following:
Several Southern California college baseball squads take to the road this weekend with teams flying to the Pacific Northwest, North Carolina, across the Pacific and even to the country’s heartland.
And those teams might be the lucky ones as Southern California is being beset with rain that threatens to wipe out several scheduled games around the area.
To get you ready for the Southern California baseball action, we’ve got your schedule and Around the Horn preview of series to watch highlighted by a top 10, familiar foe, face-off along with teams vying to return to the national spotlight and a team that won’t get to avoid one of the nation’s top pitchers any longer. There were only four games on Tuesday, but they each featured a pair of Southern California ball clubs. All four turned out to be tight affairs with three decided by one run — including a game that featured a seven-run comeback and another that featured an extra-innings walk-off.
We’ve got your quick roundup of all four games with photo galleries from the dramatic San Diego State/UC Riverside game and the UC Santa Barbara upset of UCLA: Continue reading
Mike Gillespie has seen just about everything this game has to offer after 20 years at USC and currently in his seventh season as the head man at UC Irvine. On Sunday, he saw something very familiar that got him to a new plateau. “Skip” reached a milestone, picking up his 1,000th career Division I victory.
While Gillespie saw his ‘Eaters win, they didn’t quite do it in the dramatic fashion that USC and Pepperdine pulled off to get sweeps against inferior foes. Big rubber matches between UCLA/Cal Poly and Cal State Fullerton/San Francisco turned into dominant one-sided performances.

To get you ready for the second weekend of Southern California baseball action, we’ve got your Around the Horn preview of series to watch with a huge regional rematch, a southpaw showdown, two teams trying to make different types of statements and a couple of squads in dire need of some hits.
After dropping their first game of the season, Southern California’s top ranked squads, No. 1 Cal State Fullerton and No. 9 UCLA, both bounced back with dramatic victories to ensure a series win.
It was a strong day in the Southland as 10 of the 11 SoCal teams in action scored victories. Long Beach State’s series sweep at the hands of No. 10 Vanderbilt and “one of the best pitching staffs I’ve ever seen,” according to Dirtbags’ head coach Troy Buckley, was the only blemish. Continue reading
It only took until Day Two for the list of undefeated Southern California teams to trim to just one (not including UC Santa Barbara, who has yet to play).
But the team with a still unblemished record is not No. 1 Cal State Fullerton or fellow top 10 squad, UCLA. Instead it is the USC Trojans, who have needed 26 innings to determine a pair of games with Northwestern.
USC isn’t the only team playing extra baseball early on. Five of the SoCal games went into extra innings this afternoon.

Washington State 9, #1 Cal State Fullerton 7 (11 innings)
The Titans clawed back from a 7-3 deficit to tie the game in the eighth inning, but in the ninth inning when Fullerton had an opportunity to collect a walk-off win after J.D. Davis tripled with one out, the Titans couldn’t get the job done. Continue reading
