Arizona set to hire Jay Johnson

JohnsonJayCollege Baseball Daily has learned that current Nevada head coach Jay Johnson will be named the new head coach at the University of Arizona replacing Andy Lopez who retired this week. Fresno State releases 2015 Schedule

The spring slate will test the Diamond ‘Dogs over a 56-game regular season schedule that kicks off Friday, February 13 at Beiden Field with UC Irvine, one of eight teams to reach Omaha for the College World Series last season.

Nevada announces 2015 Schedule

AustinBayRENO, Nev. – Nevada head baseball coach Jay Johnson has announced the team’s 2015 schedule, which features 27 homes games, marquee nonconference meetings and the Mountain West Tournament at Peccole Park.

“We are very excited about the challenges our schedule presents to our team,” said Johnson. “Our players are getting a top level Division I baseball experience here with this schedule. Mountain West to name Player of the Year Award after Tony Gwynn

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West will honor former San Diego State head coach and student-athlete Tony Gwynn with the naming of the Conference’s Baseball Player of the Year Award. The leagues’ head baseball coaches made the recommendation at their annual meeting in August, and with the MW Joint Council’s recent approval, the change will be implemented beginning with the 2015 season. UNLV releases 2015 Schedule

UNLVTimChambersFeaturedLAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV baseball head coach Tim Chambers released his 2015 schedule on Monday and a total of 30 regular-season games will be played at Earl E. Wilson Stadium, which is six more than last season, while the Rebels will be on the road for 25 games.

Matchups with nationally prominent teams from the Big 10, Big 12 and Pac-12 conferences and historically strong teams from the Big West Conference, West Coast Conference and Western Athletic Conference will highlight Chambers’ fifth season at the school.

“In 2014 we played a very tough non-conference schedule and were rewarded by earning an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament,” Chambers said. “So we are using that idea again this year to play some teams that are consistently ranked in the top 25.
